i think i will take that as a big fat no then !! thanks for looking anyway
The DIS engine is alot easier to fit to the Mk1/2 as there is no dizzy to locate.

ive missed your reply somehow, sorry. What sort of engine management do you use with this system, and i take it you have fitted a few ?
Depends on what you require really, the DIS and standard injection system can be used but runs out of steam at about 165BHP with fast road cams and a power cap.
You can bolt carbs on with an aftermarket system such as the MBE 967I which will give you around 180BHP.
The DIS is alot easier as there is no dizzy at the rear of the bulkhead and you may not have to chop any out. if you run a dizzy then it all gets a bit messy IMHO and not really worth the grief.
I have done quite a few 16v in Escorts now so know the pitfalls of what to expect in differerent configurations etc...

i am thinking that i will fit bike carbs but its the negine management side thats causing a hedache. i take it i would need to go the MBE route but was just trying to do it cheaply to get it running. Is it worth fitting the standard injection system and the standard ecu or is this to complicated ? cheers mate.
Any pics of these engines??? i taught all the xe engines had the distributor on the end of the exhaust cam??
what year/cars did they come in???

ill try to , but no the later xe , mine is from a calibra, but cant remember now what year has a coil pack instead of the distributor so the block will fit further back nn the engine bay and doesn`t need machining to alter the length of the cam etc.

If you use the standard injection system then you may need to trim the drivers side webbing plate just by the bonnet hinge if you catch my drift. Use a power cap as the standard airbox is too big and won't go in easily.
The standard management can be run on three wires, if you go bike carbs, then you will need an aftermartket management system such as MBE, Omex etc....
With regards to the DIS engines, these were in the later Astra's, Cav GSI 16v and the Calibra 16V.
You don't need to machine the cam down, you can lop the rear end off with a grinder, as the cam carrier is forward of the bit you need to take off. All you need to do then is blank the hole off.
Hope this helps?
