Cool!
Can you still get the flat fronted thundersaloon kit? I think I got the mag with the sureguard cars in.
The big question is ..Where are these cars now?

Try Fibresports, if they dont do one just get the same rears as mine and modify / make a set of fronts.
Do love the look of flat front, hard as fook, just not as good aerodynamically as the droop snoot.

Oh and John Cross (x-sport) still sells the old Martin Schanke rally cross kit like this, not to everybodys taste I know, but a replica would be great to build

Thats right tim,the flat front yellow one,was a rothmans car:violin:

If was worth nothing back then.

When the car had archs smashed up at race meets the rothmans stripes were under archs.

I deffo have the sureguard issue at home  but dont have a scanner:stu: . If a moderator wants to pm me their address I can send a very good quality colour photocopy so that it can be posted up for everyone's benefit.

Funny how certain articles stick in your mind.

I saw those cars race at Brands they were quick - wonder where they are now?

Hey Dan,

you might be interested to know that your Dads old Thundersaloon is still alive and well and is about to be resUrrected as an out n out beast for next season.
The pictures of the car below are of the car as it is today and its original red and white paint scheme have been butcherd by someone in the past. The atlas axle has been replaced with an English and the brakes have been robbed, apart from that its all original.
If anyone has any more info or history or even know where the Hart engine is then please let me know :thumb:

Looks like it needs a lot of TLC, but would make a fantastic car if done properly. Good luck with the sale.

Some pictures from Rod Birley site
The no 13 car was my first xpack build, back in the day when there was finishing money and egg and cheese buttys :thumb:at Brands kentigon and mr Webb at the bar waiting for a drink or 2.The good old days when escorts had big rubber and 2 to the gallon motors in them. No 13 was my mums brothers car the late Barry Barns who was always on the grid.Over the thunder saloons time we had mk2 escorts rover 3500 rover sdi grpA that led the race at birmingham super prix but came in 4th. Then M5 bmw big arches and air jacks nice car until we loaded it up to go racing on the back of the coach witch was a thunder saloon must have, but looking around the pits i bet not one of them had a (mot):D , sorry then there was a skid crash bang and then bollocks write off. Then manta 400/ mk2 XXL Xpack N/a cossey by tim swodders, and he did maKe no 2 driver some times but his escort was spot on TO running a BDG.Then came more fiberglass and many late nights and the Xpack 3dr cossey N/a was born why tim was in that shed again sorting a turbo out for us.Just a small part of Barry's garden shed racing life.Just wish you were still here mate miss you and need you i hope i do you proud in my mk2 baz .
