I'm not sure if its just me but!!

I normally buy Classic Ford religously every month, and being the time of year I expected it to be a bit more special!!

but I picked it off the shelf today, and had a flick thru, as some do!!
and decided not to part with the almost £4.00 price tag!

I just didnt feel that the content this month was worth the money!

I normally wouldnt even look through it first, but over the last couple of months i've been a little dissapointed after buying it! which is probably why i did!

Maybe i'm getting more fussy or just being tight!

does anyone else feel the same?

What was it about the contetnt that you didn't like exactly?

i thought it was alright but i miss the your yard section.:( sometimes you get issues like the one with the warn brothers escies(dec 05 i think) in it and you just cant stop reading it and sometimes you get shitty issues that are just left lying in the shed under a toolbox
:door:
and its starting to get some competition with retro ford on the shelves now as well!

I guess i'm just biased towards escorts & motorsport, The kind of things that I like to see in such a mag are original cars, with interesting fabricated modifications! but I realise that there are plenty of other classic fords and you have to show a good variety of cars!

& i'm afraid that 4 door escorts dont really do it for me! but each to his own!

I also get a bit fed up when it seems like your paying for a magazine each month that consists of pretty much the same advertisements, of which take up quite a good amount of space!

especially when the price keeps creeping up!!

To be honest I bought Retro Ford mag this month, which I dont usually do! but that was mainly because of the feature cars & the freebies!

I would have also expected Classic Ford to have a much better calender this month!

That's all fair enough mate. But...

As far motorsport goes we have the new section at the back.

As far as Escorts go we feature at least one every issue. We get stick enough from people for doing that to tell you the truth. No editor will see the day they make their entire readership happy, unless you're selling weedy figures like 6k or less.

As far as originality goes, well, we feature different cars every month that haven't been featured else where (or if that happens the features are of a hugely superior quality) and we're always on the look out for different types of work: Rotina, the MKII Escort Cossie V6, independent rear suspension MKI Lotus Cortin running an NA YB, Colin McRae's Escort - all cars we've featured over the last year or so. Although while guys build Pinto and Crossflow-powered cars with live axles and a five-speed box we'll keep showing them. What have you got in your car by the way?

The four-door. Well, that's up to you. But how many have you seen in mags before? You wanted originality...

The price of the mag keeps going up? As far as I remember the last price rise was around June this year. Before that I can't remember. We are a business and don't forget there's inflation.

Retro Ford. Up to you mate. But I'm quite happy if you're attracted to it by the freebies.

The calendar. We were not allowed to splash out on a big one this year, so the only route open to us was the pull-out poster. I wish we could've done more but I'm happy to present a quality mag and not have to bribe people to buy it - otherwise you'll start turning into Fast Car, Max Power and Redline with LEDs, keyrings and god knows what on the cover. It'll be 'I'll make you cum in under a minute' wank lines in the back of the mag after that!

And the adverts. Well, no ads, no mag I'm afraid. As far as the space they take up goes, well we're the biggest mag on the shelves pagination wise so you shouldn't notice the difference in editorial content. Plus we have more features than the rivals, and all produced to a higher quality in my opinion. And the ads are for the same specialists every month because there are only a finite number of specialists that want to advertise. Really it's as simple as that. Adverts also reflect the health of a mag. If a mag's failing it will have less ads as it isn't selling well so the advertisers get less coverage - unless the mag sells pages for silly low prices or gives them away for free which does happen. We have more ads in CF because we sell 'at least' three twice as many copies per issue as the opposition.

Er, hope that rambling answer helps.

By the way Terry, your poster's going into the next issue's product pages if you were wondering...

YOur Yard is back in the next issue. It hasn;t bee in recently because we've had so much other stuff going in something had to make way and it was that I'm afraid.

the bit about tour britannia was gud but so much coverage for an event with not that many fords in and the lack of coverage (unless its changed since i asked) of the RAC rally which was 80/90% fords

That all seems fair to me!

No, I havent forgot inflation! its hard not to!

With regards to R....F..., to be honest I was more interested in learning a bit more about Ricky Hutchins escort! the free stuff is just a bonus/gimic if you like!

dare I say that both magazines are obviously aimed at the same readers and I would have thought that it must have affected CF sales, but I always look forward To CF more..I'll put some pennies aside for next months..

Many thanks for the feedback of my little dissatisfaction!

Same reason for me,retro ford just had the better standard of cars this month.

For me,the problem is the classic scene in general. Most people are still building their cars the same as they were built in the 70's,and the lower budget cars are still on live axle,13's,pinto/x flow power with twin 40's/45's,and the big budget cars are 4/5/6 linked with cossie turbo power, and big budgets. There just isn't enough variety and people doing new things to their cars to make it interesting.
The four door mk2 was different only for the fact it was a 4 door, the same combo in a 2 door has been done and featured so many times its boring.
And think about it,if,like i did,you bought your favourite car mags every month,(fast ford, performance ford, retro ford, classic ford, ppc)you would be spending £20 a month on mags, only to see the same thing again and again.
Now,i only buy ppc,as although its not a purely ford mag, there is enough variety, and mad projects to keep me interested, and the pages from dave walker about real problems that occur when trying to tune your car are very interesting.

I'm afraid I bought the R F mag this month! C F just didnt win me over enough to part with my hard earned cash!

The other thing that bothers me about C F mag is that it always looks ripply! not like it used to be!

perhaps they are using different paper!

Sorry to hear that. Obviously it's your choice to spend your money on whatever you want.
However I thought this latest issue of Classic Ford was very good, I don't like sending it to the printers if it isn't. I felt it had something for everyone, standard, modified, good tech, interesting features and a quality motorsport section again.
As has been said many time before you can't please everyone all the time but we do try very hard to please the majority of our readers, which I think we do very well.
If there is something of particular interest to you in another publication then you're going to buy it over another, I do the same but if you have any suggestions as to what you'd like to see more of in the magazine then please let me know.

Class mag mate :thumb:
I buy here in ireland every month and always find something interesting in it!! Im an escort fan as ive being building mine for the past 4 years and its still not finished but like to learn and read about all classic fords!
I started buying C.F. when i was about 17, never seen a bad issue and its gotten to the stage now where i never miss a month! I have to say i do buy Retro Ford every month aswell but think theres definatly room for the two of ye!

Im also a firm believer in what you sed earlier
"I'm happy to present a quality mag and not have to bribe people to buy it - otherwise you'll start turning into Fast Car, Max Power and Redline with LEDs, keyrings and god knows what on the cover. It'll be 'I'll make you cum in under a minute' wank lines in the back of the mag after that!"
Cant stand "LAX POWER" or any of that junk

Great mag mate and keep up the good work, ill be hoping to a pic or a feature of my baby in it when i eventually get her done

Yea i read that yer comming over here allright.
If you have a look in the restorations and projects thread under "irish mk2 escort in the making" or click on my name and view all threads started by me youll see the car.
However theres no way itll be finished by the time ye are over here.
Id love to get a pic of it in a mag or something but it would only be a work in progress or project or something.
At the minute im sanding it down, hope to get it off to be painted in the next 3/4 weeks so can start putting it back together then.

I would be nice to see more rally / track cars featured
for example the stobart mark 2, cars build by professionals or managed by big company's or teams
with technical details, to give the ford enthousiats some ideas or something to look up to
lots of the cars featured are stunning but it's always nice to see a car that has a history
keep up the good work! :thumb:

I do like classic ford but I only read it for the escorts and like it when there is a useful tech fitting guides.

My fave issue had "mk1 heaven on the cover" and got me into escorts. Read that so much i had to throw it out it was so taddered. would like to buy that issues again.

It has its good and bad points but we would all miss it if it was gone:thumb:

variety is the spice of life i like the stuff from abroad yanks with v8 s aussies with jap stuff in old fords but over here everyone just gets a rally design book and builds the same thing that was what i liked about retro ford this month that granada it was different but to be fair cf with the mk1 capri and mk1 tina from the states was very good and the shoot out s are a good read as you get to see what a car really does

Regarding the price of car mags (not just CF) - I just can't see how the cover price is justified.

Income is from advertising and there's plenty of that in each mag. The content is largely made up of reader feature cars which don't cost anything other than the shoot expenses , and I'd imagine the cost to the mag for their own features / cars is largely subsidised by the trader concerned as it is in effect just a big advertisement for the associated firms doing the work.

Obviously you have all your other normal over heads (staff wages / premises / printing / distribution etc) but so do all the other mags , so I’d leave these out of the equation

Sure I’ve over simplified the whole income v/s expenses argument – but I get cheesed off when I see the wifes glossy mags which are 2 to 3 times the size for less cost. (Ok – I know you’ll say the circulation is xxx times as many)

P.S - loved the US MK1 LC feature in this months CF.

top mags lads, keep up the good work but a freebie or big poster like you used to do wouldn't go amiss every so often or even once a year, red cossie anglia poster for example :)

Must say I have been a reader since Ford Heritage days and will carry on subscribing. I think Classic Ford is the best, I have had a subscription with Retro Ford for the last year but I am not renewing as it all seems a bit basic ( perhaps cos I am old at 55 and have seen most of it before!) plus I see some basic mistakes which detract. I also get PPC as it is very off the wall and shows something away from the norm. Welcome back Simon. ps anyone got old style Classic Ford window sticker red letters clear background? Paul Watts.
