im in the process of buying a 5 speed gearbox for my mk1. its going to have a xe engine conversion. has a 4:1 diff with a plate lsa. are the ratios different between a 2.8 capri and a sierra type 9 box? which would be the best one for my car? any help much obliged guys:thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
2.8 capri ones a bit better ratio wise but you have to get the end of the input shaft cut back as it's too long . :thumb:

The 2.8i box is thought to be the one to get due to the ratios. But with you changing diffs it would be advisable to check with the program Gearcalc http://www.locost7.info/files/gearbox/gearcalc.zip to see if you are going to get the output you want. In regards to fitting the 2.8i box and its longer input; This can be got around by using SBD's longer bellhousing http://www.sbdev.co.uk/Gearbox/Bellhouses/Bellhouses.htm. This may mean more work fitting the gearbox in the tunnel though as the mounts will be further back.
