Andy,I haven't got a fire extinguisher system or some of the bars that are in your car,I also run a 5 link+coilover system on the back which is probably lighter than the leafs that you had.My shell is full of filler though which adds to the weight a little so IF I were to put new panels on it'd weigh less, there are NO holes drilled in any of the panels though. Mind you I probably weigh 30 kilos more than you so it'd even things out:D

Tricky, the rods are from the days when spedeworth ran the 1600 hotrod formula (they were used by a top engine builder)and are basically lightened both ends, where the square lugs used to be is now round(they look similar to farndon steel ones now),the sides have the casting marks cleaned/ground off they are then finished off by being highly polished/stress relieved and balanced end to end and as a matched set.The man who did them is still doing stuff and would still do some if he was asked to( he does heads too).

How did it pull 126mph in 3rd??? :clint: mine pulled 104 in 4th at 6500rpm?

Anyway impressive for a home built engine :thumb:

Ron Harris thought so too when I met him at Goodwood a couple of years ago (that was when it was a 1660):thumb:

It IS high geared but would actually do 101mph in 3rd at 7250:dance: Scary thing is it actually pulls 8000rpm(I rev it to 8250 through the gears) in 4th which equates to 133mph:clint: and then there's 5th but I've never been anywhere long enough to get full revs.I'm normally looking for the braking point so don't look at the rev counter.

I took my combi to sanspeed recently, where after a rolling road set up it made 112 bhp,the main problem i have though is that i dont really know anything about my engine, other than what the guy told me when i bought it

Just a quick update: took my car for another session today and to start off with it had less power (160 bhp)than it had before:confused: after playing with the timing we ended up with 149.6 BHP at the wheels which is 180.5 Bhp at the flywheel at 7300rpm.
It was well worth getting it done as we had a couple of problems including a broken rotor arm, he took it up to 8600 rpm:clint: to make sure we'd cured the misfire! Definately doesn't valve bounce:D

what do you think the bhp gain on a fairly standard 1700 is with 40's, and 45's, over a twin choke?

dangerousdave
22-05-2008, 15:11
The same as a fairly standard 1600...not a lot.

You can get 110bhp easy with a 1600 on a twin choke, at that level twin 40's arent really needed as theres not a lot of gain, its only when your aiming for more power you need them, or if the fashion scene says you need them :D and 45's for big power...say 140 plus :thumb:

Doubt it, I've got to try and keep up with you:thumb: Don't forget Mr Bahr says the rollers I use read about 10 bhp high.
