View Full Version : Prices
Hi all,
I now have an XE lump.
Other than the engne what are the expected costs to get this running in my mk2 as cheap as possible?
Thanks, Yodi

All depends if you just want to chuck a standard engine in or not.
Cheapest option standard engine:
Prices from Yukspeed
Engine mounts (chassis). £55
Bellhousing. £160
Bellhousing bolts. £10
Spigot bush: £10
Sump. £150+
Exhaust. Cut and shut standard one. Possibly free if you can weld.
Some basic wiring.
Also need type 9 gearbox and Prop.
Thanks for that mate, and yes for now a standard engine is fine with me.
What about coil packs etc?
What needs doing to the sump?

Options for ignition/ecu are:
1. Off the shelf 2D or 3D kit from Omex, Weber, MBE etc..
2. Manta driven distributor from exhaust cam pulley
3. Modern contactless distributor, coilpack, hall sensor
4. Megajolt, crank sensor, Ford EDIS + coilpack + tps or map sensor for 3D system.
You'll need either a Manta big-wing sump, or a modified one to clear the Escort crossmember. Yukspeed sell a modified steel one. I'd also seriously reccomend the 4 branch tubular manifold from Yuk if you can afford it - it makes a BIG difference.
Cheers mate, I'd get the 4branch for sure but what sort of costs are the ignition side of things?
Thanks

- commericial ecu kit is probably ~£400,
- megajolt setup about £80 for the ecu (ready built) and maybe another £20-30 for bits (coilpack, edis module, plug leads, tps) from an escort or mondeo,
- distributor+coilpack+hall pickup etc around £150,
- not sure on the cost of a manta distributor setup - if you can even find one.
I'm running an electronic dizzy and coilpack on my XE at the moment and it works quite well - it's easy to install as there are only 3 wires to connect, but you don't get the ability to change the ignition curve (and it's 2D only). Manta setup is similar but gives a bit more clearance at the bulkhead - but a bit more work to make the bracketry to hold the dizzy and machine a pulley for the front.
The commericial kit is obviously really good, but expensive. I'm installing a megajolt + tps in a kit car at the moment (Pinto based) and it's pretty straightforward and the potential for tuning is really quite impressive (e.g the latest version even has the ability to switch between 2 maps while running!) - I'll probably be converting the Escort to megajolt sometime this year.
