Righto, ive got a pretty healthy XE in my G3 at the mo. I was doing a rally on saturday (Tarmac) testing some new steering systems.

The car was pulling well, but i got caught by a Mk2 :rsocmoan: driven by my mate. He has a similiar XE (built by himself and mapped by Paul Exom, but on throttle boddies and DTA management.

To say i was gutted was an understatement, now i know i'm loosing over 125Kgs in weight to him as the G3 is quite heavy, but i was ragging the arse of the car and couldn't keep up.

The spec of my engine is as follows.

Toovey built XE
Twin 45's on MBE 967 management
Toovey/Piper Cams
Verniers
Lightened/Balanced
Accralite Pistons (CR is i think but don't quote me 11:1):dunno:
Arrow steel rods
Hisky springs
Flowed head
Solid lifters

Have dyno sheet of 239Bhp and 180Lb ft torque at 5500 RPM (how true this is i don't know) not been on the rollers either as the engine was mapped and ran on the dyno. To be fair the engine has been perfect and never missed a beat, but is using slightly more oil then usual.

I can't take much more weight out of the car without some serious work and structural mods, so i might as well up the grunt as i can't be doing with getting caught on a stage :noway:

The throttle bodies on my mates car just seemk to make the engine come alive, the way it revs is real snappy, whereas mine seems a bit lazier if you catch my drift?

Now what can i do? I would like to go down the TB route but feel abit aggrieved with the pricing, has anybody got any experience of Bike TB's on a healthy XE and what is involved in doing so.

I don't mind spending the money on Jenvey etc... if i have to, i just wondered if there is another way.

Any help appreciated.

To change to throttle bodies you are going to change the ECU as im sure that that MBE isfor ignition only?
Which i think you know is not cheap...
As for you mate catching you,is he running a different diff? As it might be quicker out the bends and reving quicker..
tyre sizes ? Gearbox ratio`s ect.
Sounds like a nice engine, although you can get change the cams or adjust the cam timing and put a bit of ignition into it...
Get it on the rollers to see where you are with it then go from there:thumb:

yep i'd get it on a set of rolers and see what its doing and if you can get any more from it as its stands, it might of been mapped on the dyno but someimes the "in car" installation will be wrong for the dyno mapping, especially if for instance you have a different exhaust system than the one it was mapped on, it might be some bigger chokes in the carbs and a bit of jetting/ignition remapping will give you a good gain at very little cost.

and as cossymax said, different gearing coupled with the weight difference may well acount for why your mate was faster
