View Full Version : tuning tips for a cossy v6
my brother inlaw has a granada cosworth (not my cuppa tea) that he wants to tune up abit, he's on about turbos, superchargers etc. but is there any cheaper mods that can be done that give good gains in power/torque?
If he wants to turbo it he will get more power and find it cheaper to swap to a 4 Pot sierra engine.

with an internally std engine if you junk the airflow meter, cats and have a decent freeflowing exhaust they will give between 220-240bhp on a mappable aftermarket ecu, but thats going to be quite expensive for not an enormous gain.

later BOB cams help free up a few extra bhp, you dont to go mad with an exhaust on standard cams or you'll lose power, losing the cats, swopping the cams, a cone filter and an aftermarket chip should see 230bhp ish. you should be able to single turbo it for under a grand and see 250bhp with no internal mods. gets well expensive after that.
Any tuning you do tho the motor with a stock autobox is going to make it drive a bit "funny". You'd need to address the shift pattern too. Best thing to do with a gran-cos is use it as a donor for the motor and bolt it into something else with a manual box!

In a granada? Reduce the weight! hehe! Cheap, and effective certainly.
I've got a stock BOA engine in the Capri, sans CATs, K&N filter, Peter lloyd exhaust, on a 4-speed Capri 3ltr gearbox. Am thinking of Megasquirting it in the next year or so, as i really want to Supercharge it. BOB cams are a good idea, though they do shift the power band.
A good trick is to make sure the Air Flow Meter is clean - spray the element with carb cleaner, as it gets coated with carbon, and then requires more air flowing through it to get the same results. That, some decent plugs, and a service made all the difference on mine.

Vauxhall Vectra 2.5 V6 fuel injectors make a difference as well, they have a more efficient flow pattern anda higher flow rate, so at part throttle you get better mpg and at full throttle more power, i've got them fitted in mine.

Ooh, nice mate! What year Vectra? I'll be investing in them :D
