Hi,
There are so many different combinations of megasquirt that it is impossible to decide which combination is best.
Could anyone who has succesfully implemented megasquirt list the combination of parts which they used and how they got on

not quite the answer you want but this may help you decide.
ms1 now comes in v2.2 or the v3 circuit board. v3 has on board ignition drivers and is more robust.
both ms1 versions can use the ford edis module for ignition.
ms2 is a more powerfull processor(chip) , ms1 can be upgraded to ms2 by swapping chips.
other variations all stem from different firmware versions (the chips onboard software program) the most common ones being msns-e ie megasquirt n spark extra, this has extra features and is required if using ms1 with edis for ign., hence "msns-e with edis".
hope this helps some. try msefi.com

Thanks Alladin,
I am looking at using the V2.2 pcb ms1 uprocessor with EDIS and the standard throttle plenum from a late model granada on my Pinto engine. All I need now is the 36-1 trigger wheel.
Which firmware would be best suited for this application to control both spark and fuel. Also which would be best MAP or TPS for this setup.
Regards
Tom

i have built my own v3 to use edis even tho i could have used on board mainly due to msns-e maps being available, so i would say use that firmware. ie msns-e with edis.
as for map/tps i went map as it seems more common on the ms installs you see done /mapped. off the shelf systems ie emerald etc all use tps.

Thats exactly the setup I have on my pinto. Use MAP based (speed density) with a TPS for accel enrichments. TPS based (alpha-n) is really only for wild cammed-throtle bodies monsters that don't give useable MAP readings.
Any of the latest MSnS firmware will suit you to start with, 029v is the latest I believe.. When you're more comfetable you might like to look at the hiRes code, its worth it.

Thanks for the reply. I have since got the 36-1 trigger wheel and sensor but I think that I will use megajolt lite Jr first to prove the ignition side of things and then move on to the fuel setup later. I will use the standard carb and an external map sensor. Engine is currently being re-built due to a spun main bearing so will be delayed for a while.
You could use Megasquirt and just not hook up the fuel injectors.. It will function the same as a megajolt, but will allow you to expand to full fuel injection much easier/cheaper.. Something to think about anyway.

Good point, you could still use an O2 sensor which will help you set the carbs up:thumb:

Good points but I suppose the other thing for me to consider is I have the megajolt built but the megasquirt is still a box of parts that need assembly.

i found the actual build easy, v.good megamanual, what slowed me was the options/mods (like idle valve ,edis etc). the info on integrating these into the build was a bit "patchy" tho it was there.and may be better now 12m on.

just to clarify in case it helps someone....
megasquirt uses map reading for load by default but can be set to read load from the tps, called alpha-n mode. it then becomes more like other off the shelf ecu.
