How many of you guys are going to be at Shelsly on the 13th?
I'm going up to cover it for the next issue of the mag so it'd be good to see as many friendly faces and old Fords as possible. :thumb:

Next one for me is MIRA I have to keep it down to 1 event per month.

This is due to the usual problem that I spend more money racing than I do on the ather half:stu:

Hopefully see you at MIRA..............

Yes I will be there pending acceptance of entry. Still haven't heard yet.

Its a two day event, Saturday is vintage car stuff, Sunday the modern stuff with the Old Fords round.

I have volunteered to marshal on the Saturday so will be on the hill somewhere getting close to the action. There's an informal BBQ Saturday night & camping in the field the other side of the road for anyone that wants to join us.:) :thumb:

Saturday is a round of the HSA etc. Just because I'm in there there's no need to call it "vintage car stuff"!

Getting a feel for it yes.
Those of you doing SW for the first time remember you will need to fit your comp no to the front of your car as well as the sides. This is so the timekeepers can see your number on the line.

No worries Bernard, I plan to do a sideways burnout just before the start line, so no front numbers needed:woohoo: :D :D

Number on the bonnet/screen. Needs to be seen from the front.

The entry in Sports Libre on Sunday is looking pretty awesome! Nick Mann will entertain, Ken in the 6R4, Windy we are in for a thrashing!

GavinR

Think I will be joining you both in Sports Libre before I go to some Welsh / South Western events and get forcibly moved into Sports Libre for having a 4-linked Mk2 :dunno: :bolt:

I've done probably 20 sprints over the years in a couple of 4-linked Mk2's, always in Mod Prod with either a Pinto or N/A Cossie, mainly in the South and East of England and no-one's ever said a word, so I never realised it wasn't allowed until reading comments on the British Rally forum about the first Epynt Hillclimb in June :(

I'm not the only one who's entered the OFSC in a 4-linked Mk2 in Mod Prod either, it seems to be which part of the country you go to whether the scrutineers take much notice or not, but seeing as I'm entered for Pembrey x 2, Llandow and fancy Wiscombe in September, it won't be long before some notices it :O

Still if I move now I'll only lose my points for Curborough and as the OFSC class is handicap it doesn't really matter anyway :thumb:

windy

Gavin,

Your car is allowed in the MSA mod prod class with it linked. As long as it retains the original type of axle, i.e. live axle you are OK. I think something like double wishbone suspension on the rear would put you in Sports Libre though.

For some events & regional championships the Supplementary Regulations (SR's) that the organising club write, may stipulate that 4 linked axle is not allowed, but you'll only get this at the odd 1 event.

Stick with Mod prod. If you have any problems with a protest come see me for the blue book. This problem has cropped up several times before & the protester usually shys away when its time to put your money on the table & make a protest official to the MSA.

GavinR
01-05-2007, 21:50
Ok, I'll stick with it - every time I read the Blue Book I think something different

Anyway, is that the same Nick Mann who had a Twin Turbo Rover V8 powered Morris Minor :clint: about 20 years ago?

DarrenM

We should be there spectating. I'll bring the Harrier over. Can you wander around the pits and get to see the cars close up?

grahamb

Nick Manns latest creation features a helicopter auxiliary power unit, which runs the turbo at full boost. Four wheel drive, 1700 BDA engine, entirely home built. Incredible piece of kit.

Video here.

Breakages permitting, Nick will be first in class, with Kens Metro a close 2nd. Ken was getting used to a new titanium clutch last year, that cost £3000. Ouch!!!!

bernard100

Darren,
SW is a dream of a place for access and atmosphere. Paddock is fully available and if feeling fit, you can walk to the top with spectator seats all the way.

Graham, What happened to Nick Mann etc ie everyone else from Sports Libre. Didn't they run?

windy
15-05-2007, 13:57
Nick Mann had a few problems with getting off the line without stalling at first. He sorted that for 2nd practice & then the rain came down. It was good to see the car in the flesh & the sound of that helicopter turbine hooked up to that BDT engine was awesome! One of the Radicals spun into the bank off the start line & did some damage & i think both radicals then went home. The rest of the class was a no show probably due to the rain.

I can't believe you've got to compete against that thing! It sounds like it's doing 300mph when they spin up the turbine on the start line. Four wheel drive too!!!
