View Full Version : Unusual fuel pressure reg setup (or am i going crazy)

The postman came this morning with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. So i've been thinking about where to mount it and how all the bits link up.

I'm *sure* I've seen a car set up with only one feed going into the fuel rail for the injector. This links to the pressure reg along with the feed and return lines.

I have done a rudimentay diagram to try and explain.

I seem to remember some connection to drift cars with the pressure reg in the boot.:dunno:

Is this actually possible as it looks like a very neat solution? or am i in fact imagining things again?:muppet:

No, it's not possible with a "standard" fpr. It regulates the pressure "before" the regulator, in the feed line and it needs to be in series with the injectors, "after" them.

There are returnless systems in some cars, with special regulators and/or pwm regulated pumps. But generally a "normal" system works best and easiest.

as gustaf said, it can be done as per your pic but needs a special regulator to do it, as far as i can see there isnt a good reason to do it that way anyway,

infact doing it the normal way has at least 2 advanages i can see, any air in the injector rail will be bleed out much quicker going up the return rather than through the injectors and the fuel in the rail will stay cooler as the pump will be constantly recirculationg it

Thankyou for the responses. I hadn't considered the trapped air problem.

Glad to hear that it can be done and i'm not imagining things, but I'm going to go for the standard approach.
