Does anyone know what size thread a ford air temp sender is. I wan to tap it into my pinto inlet. The burton brochure mentions 14mm x 1.5 but other sources mention 14mm x 1.25. It looks a course thread but i don't want to blow a tenner on the wrong tap. I can post a piccie if needed.

try buying a nut to put on it as a trial? do you realy want it into the manifold ? is it a turbo instal?
who's asking the questions here?:D

Doh didn't think of that. Thanks
It will be a turbo install at the end of it all. I was going to run it just as a n/a engine until i get the hang of this mapping stuff.
My idea was to tap it into the blocked up boss on the inlet plenum. I saw that HT racing had done it in their dyno feature in classic ford but that was an atmo engine. Will it make a difference. I suppose the only realistic place would be in the boost pipe before the throttle body.

in an atmo engine the air temp is only a very minor trim mixture wise and not really worth bothering with,
in a turbo engine one is essential, its not a good idea to mount it in the inlet tract of a manifold as there it reacts much slower and tends to pick up a lot of heat from the manifold itself, much better to mount it somewhere where all the air going into the engine passes through, i've fitted them in the chamber of an inlet plenum, turbo hoses and in the outlet side of the intercooler all with equill success.
fitting it to the intercooler was easiest, i just drilled a hole in the intercooler, poked the sensor through and and screwed a nyloc nut on the the other side, as a belt and braces insurance i added a few deops of loctite first

Just for reference for anyone else the thread is 14mm with a 1.5 pitch. Which is coarser than normal.
I found this out at my local engineering shop. They had a set of three taps £33 each:stu: after discount they offered me the middle tap for £13:dance:. I was about to purchse when the shop owner spotted it was chipped and he said "i can't sell you that. If it's only for one hole in alloy it should be ok. Use it and bring it back and i will send it back to Dormer":woohoo:a free hole.
