right i have a 78 mk2 rs2000 nosecone, bought in bits(as always) and my problem is fitting the box, i have put axle dif and one of the 2 props i have in place(2 different lengths) one of the props lines up the gear stick hole properly in the shell but mounts are sat to far forward in the car. i have what i think is a cortina gearbox mount which is shaped like a smile if you get what i mean. i have drilled the holes that the bolts go through into the alloy gearbox spacers further forward on the gearbox mount, do you think this will be suitable or what are your suggestions, how have you guys done it, i think half the problems im having with the car are due to loads of random bits that werent intended for the car. please help need to get the engine mounted as im starting to loose enthusiasm,

You have a few choices. For the engine: A world cup crossmember with XE mounts or Chassis mount it. Chassis mounting is better as it allows you to move the engine back further but is more work. For the gear box: You can move the existing mounts in the tunnel and weld them back in then use an automatic gearbox mount from a mk1/2 escort and it will bolt straight in (it is likely you will need to make the tunnel bigger with a big hammer if you have a manual gearbox tunnel. or weld in an automatic tunnel as its already bigger and the mounts will be in the right place. or just bolt the gearbox mounts through the floor and put strengthening plates in to take the weight. Prop shaft wise will depend on what axle you are using. A type nine has the same splines as an automatic gearbox prop. The length will depend on what engine mounting system you use. First job is to decide where you want the engine as that will dictate you gearbox mounting and prop solution. Hope that helps.
