My daily hack is a 96 2.0l Zetec mondeo and it hasn't missed a beat since i got it, aparet from when it freeze's.

If there's a normal frost its ok, but if it's really cold it wont start, it'll crank over and over like there's no spark, sometimes it'll go before the battery is flat but others it wont and with a jump it'll still turn over for ages until it misses a bit, the rev counter wont work whilst its doing this and the speedo sometimes starts to sweep, oh and the rear wiper sometimes goes!!!

Like I say its perfect all of the time except when its a really hard frost:confused: so cold start etc would show itself up most cold mornings, dont really know where to start.:stu:

normaly when you get strange symptoms ( ie rear wiper) its an earth issue. not sure whats a common factor there tho ! i have a manual on pdf if its of use ?

but an earth fault would show up at different times not just when cold, I suspect the wiper is more a voltage thing as its been cranking for a long time, but as for the non start im running out of ideas, may try another ecu

if you pull the coil lead on a warm day and crank it do you get the same symptoms ?

Are the inector firing? You can test with a Noid light. If you are gettign no spark and no injector switching then your CPS is the liekly problem. Normally they just need a good clean. You get test the CPS with a multimeter. Do a resistence check and AC volts check while cranking and post your results here.

have you tried removing & cleaning the flywheel pick-up sender??, if thats got dirt on it, then the signal may have probs when really cold.

I would also check the crank sensor.. common problem
