What g/b could I use if I try this
I want to try something different in my van and I like the engines for power and economy.
Has any one fitted a tdci engine in a escort?
Thanks

transit gearbox maybe, as the transit uses that engine in both fwd and rwd configurations
I am interested in this too and can see it becoming a popular conversion for classics as you have a bit of go with decent economy.
The electrics are the real concern I reckon. The engine management, loom etc are all needed as a package. Even the throttle pedal as it is a fly by wire - cant rev the engine up from under the bonnet - no throttle quadrant lol.
If you go this route then make sure you picture and document it well on here - I will go as far as to say that there is deffo some developement needed as this will become a niche market as popular as the Cossie conversion!
sounds like a good idea to me :thumb:
good luck with the project

same here, really interested in how this turns out if you get it off the ground......all the other scenes have been messing with diesels.....
ford might have been lazy and used the same bellhousing as the previous diesel which came in the sierra.........
Check the transit owners club forum there's a chap on there stuck a new transit diesel in a Mk1 transit :thumb:
Appart from the leccy bits the Mk1./2 Mondeo 1.8 diesel is based on the old sierra/Mk4 escort lump :thumb:
There's a series of articles about someone building a Diesel Westfield in Practical Performance Car Magazine at the moment. He's using a VAG 1.9TDi.
Some ldv(old type) vans use the tdci engine's some are drive by wire some are cable.
Where my grandad helps they have a fleet of ldv's and i know they've converted some from drive by wire to the older type when problems have arose.
I know where there is a good 1600 16valve TDCI engine. In my Fiesta, was fine until the stupid truck driver in lane 2 decided to move into lane 1 where I was. Result the fiesta is F@~#ed but the running gear is fine

i would seriously love to see this conversion, seems a shame not to try as stated before you get a bit of go with a nice dollop of economy plus all the aftermarket gains can be quite fruitfull apprently :thumb:
The 2.2 Duratorq engine in my 55 plate Mondeo produces 183PS and 460NM of torque with an aftermarket addon (Diesel Power Tuning module). ANY car with that amount of torque would make a phenomenal Q car. Relentless power in all the gears makes it one hell of a ride. I can leave BMW 530's for dead in 4th gear.
Dont know the first thing about diesels and all their plumbing, but it cant be that hard to install one in an Escort or a kitcar.
has anyone started to do this yet......;)
VAG TDi may be good.......any more info on that too :thumb:

I read an article of someone putting one into a westfield:thumb:
It's be easyer to start with a mondeo 1,8 turbo, less power but it'll bolt to a T9 :thumb:
Sounds like a good idea to me, try to ditch the dual mass flywheel tho as there nothing but a pain in the arse :thumb:

Surely all the torque would pull a type 9 to bits.
Better to got for a MT75?
The sierra turbo diesel lasted with the T9 ok :dunno:
Mind you they did use the V6 box so it's stronger than the 4 pot
im sure there was a guy on here that did a westfield conversion 1.8tdi...cant seem to find the link....i wondered about this myself as id like to use my mk1 van every day & get rid of my passat....could the 2.4tdci duratorq engine fit into a mk1 van? what would be needed for this conversion to happen????

If theres no hope of the TDCI engine going rwd you could try robbing the last generation LDV convoys of their engines our one at work has a 2.4 TD duratorq with 90bhp:thumb:

i have a mk1 transit with the older tdi engine ,140hp 260 lb ft , i have put a vw tdi in my mk2 golf after the next tweek it will be 165hp 300lb ft ish , it runs a hibrid pump big injectors and a vnt 20 turbo , i also got a s1 turbo with a 1.8 td engine it may be the only one in the uk , hears some pics , i will do a tdci project at one point but got to get the engine first http://uploads.turbosport.co.uk/getrempic3.php?url=http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a235/snakemaster1/102_4089-1.jpg

bmw 2.5 is a idi and fly by wire needs a ecu and all the stuff that goes with it , i my self would not wast my time puting it in a car i would go for tdi + the bmw is a 6 = longer engine , the newer 330 bmw is a difrant story but a comen fuel rale , like the newish ford tdci engines , thay dont like bio fuels as much as the idi and tdi s
