To work you really need a flat floor with the area under the car gradually increasing as you move towards the back of the car. You are trying to create low pressure under the car so a low front splitter, side skirts and a flat floor are what you need.

I hate TV comentators, their buzz word is the so called diffuser, anything that has a non standard end has one now...
What most of you are describing is a venturi, ie a device to create low pressure.
A Diffuser, something that spoils the airflow from the rear, or trims it as it exits the car, tidying up the turbulance caused by the Venturi, and takes hours and hours of windtunnel work to get right, some are there to take air away from the car following, some just to stop drag.
I know its a nag, but please stop calling a Venturi a diffuser, ask your wife to show you a diffuser, she'll have one on her hairdrier.
I used a diffuser at school :dunno:
Two little pipes at right angles used for spraying ink :)
