View Full Version : Which is the most bang for its Buck?
As I mentioned in my "hello I'm new" post,
I'm almost near complete with my engine transplant in the Mondeo, but I'm completely undecided on which management to run...
I'd always planned to run using Emerald, but I've seen a lot of people using Megasquirt, which is considerably cheaper & seems to be quiet versatile... However, I'm ok with a set of spanners but as for building any form of management system I think I'd sooner have something that's cost effective but quality...
I've also looked into Gotech PRO, Jamsport offer this system with a flying loom @ 420 inc. VAT, which again is cost effective, but I can't find too many people who've installed it & are using it...so can't probe them for recommendations :dunno:
Any thoughts?
Regards

can't really advise you on what's better but I only ever hear good things about Emerald :thumb:
Cheers for that buddy, I've heard both good & bad on the Emerald, mainly on the support side, but in there defense, they're only a small based company... so time is very limited, however it certainly seems a more then capable piece of kit
:) Tabs :)
Presumably you are going to have it mapped/rolling roaded when it's done.
Choose the one your rolling road recommends. :thumb:
(I think Emerald is probably best :thumb:)

Emerald gets the thumbs up for me too :thumb: but Dave has a very good point there. Mapping will be quicker (and cheaper) if you have a system the rolling road is comfortable with.
;) Cheers for the comments guys...
They're just workin' on a Gotech system.... however Emerald have said they'll supply a competent base map FOC, as they've matched it to a compatible engine which they've worked on previously

I've just been reading on Trigger-wheels.com about a 'MegaJolt' ECU/EMS
is this to do with Megasquirt? and is it any good?
:) Tabs :)

Megajolt is ignition only so is not a full management system. Supposed to be good.
;) Cheers for that buddy, I'm gonna give that a miss then, as I need the Fuel & Ignition

how much are the emerald units etc
would need the same set up ignition and fuelling
want to run wideband etc too
you get wot you pay for really at the end of the day just depends one what you want there is loads of ecu out there it is just a matter of choicing one to do the job
omex, emerald, megasquirt, motec, gems, dunnell, etc the list is endless, just need to get a bit of feed back on the different types
If you want an honest unbiased oppinion from someone that maps a lot of engine management systems i would choose either Omex, Emerald or a webcon system. We also map quite a bit of megajolt / megasquirt stuff but we get way more trouble with these systems than anything else. now before the tirade of abuse starts from all you megasquirters we have seen some stunningncars running this system but it is a self build budget system so the opportunity for something to go wrong is significantly multiplied.

nms what would be your choice of ecu if you where trying to keep it to a low budget ? but wanted all the toys on it too like wide band set up lauch control etc.
but want some that is easy to map and set up but also has a good tech service if have problems :thumb::D
how about DTA? good value, lots of features - 8 injectors, launch control etc...

dta a bit pricey m8 didn't really want to spend that much neither did my m8 with his zetec turbo build, i know the ecu is top notch but out of my league really plus not many tuners down in cornwall which is a shame un less someone can reconmend
My preference would be omex, the 600 ecu does what you want and is £545 plus vat its easy to map and the tech support is good. Emerald is also very good we map a lot of emerald stuff and its easy to get on with

and have a good read up :thumb:
When mines finished..:D i'm going to try Richards Bros in Cardrew Ind. Est. for a test run/setup-got a DTA E48 on the crossflow. Other than that theres the one next door to JRE up in Saltash that's supposed to be quite handy too according to the write up in CF a few issues back. :thumb:
