I am building a 1.8 zetec motor to run on R1 bike carbs and megajolt.
I will be doing all the wiring soon.
Where do I get Screened cable from and is it only the TPS and crank sensor that needs to be screened?
Does screened cable just have a protective "metalic casing" surounding the wires and this "casing" goes to earth?
Would something like this suit my needs? (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Alarm-Cable-Screened-8-core-x-7-0-2-Lots-of-2-5M_W0QQitemZ380076116659QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item380076116659&_trkparms=72%3A1301%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14)
Where is the best place to get normal automotive or screened cable from?
Jason.

Just noticed that cable has tiny wires so nor suitable, is it the correct type of screened cable for my application?

the wire in your link isnt really suitable as the crank senors wire shoudl be independant from all the others.
normally you only need to worry about screening the crank sensor and cam sensor if fitted, the reason is only these two generate a signal, the screening should be earthed but at one end only.
you can protect other senors from interferance by using wire which is twisted together, infact some production cars use this method to protect crank sensors, puegoet springs to mind here

look up www.maplin.co.uk in the 'cut cable' section, thers quite a few screened cables, mainly for audio use, but it does mean ther're v good quality.
i bought some twin screen stuff from there (each wire has its own screening) for my megajolt, and it works fine :)

posted in your other thread.
i believe the screen is to protect the signal from trigger to ecu from interferance. coil and ht interferance in particular can cause issues such as false crank triggers to ecu if the cables not screened. best to screen from trigger to edis and edis to ecu.:thumb:
