Eh, dont worry.. I may not be as mad about RWD Escorts as you, but I share your spirit for 'em and other old-school machines.
Give me a 2-3 years and I'll have a nice Mk2 (or maybe Mk1) to show off. Pics of my current Mk2 will be put in the 'cars' section soon, but more for advice on whether its worth doing anything major with or not rather than showing it off http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/sad.gif

Cheers lads!! Makes it all worth while when things start to take shape.

The Carbon is proper stuff. Its aerospace grade made by a bloke that borrowed it from work!! http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/wink.gif Real thick stuff!!

I have had to get a second Steel Crank made up this past few months (Ouch!) cos the engine is built to go to 10,000 rpm. so it goes as well as it looks...

CheeRs folks, glad you like my little baby!!

The new crank has finally been made and delivery was taken last week. Just got to strip the engine down again and rebuild for hopefully the last time and I will be almost there!!

Yes it is a steel crank in the pic by the way. But that is the one I am replacing for a new one. At some point in its life the current crank has been repaired and machined slightly under tollerance for my engine. It would still work fine and probably run for ages if I never thrashed the engine, BUT!! What about the one time when I fancy a few spurts at full 10K revs and the crank decides it dont want to play anymore!! OUCH...I have had about £1500+ spent on the head alone and I did not want to skimp at this late stage in the game and so have had a new crank machined from Billet...Not Cheap! But when you look at the total cost of the engine in its current stage then its worth the investment in my eyes.

I am also changing the passenger door as a few small bubbles have appeared in the paint which can only mean the tin worm still wants to play. So a brand new one has been found through Robins mate and will be dipped in the shiney black bath soon to match the rest of the car.

I also need to get the rear 4 piston calipers made up to fit the bells and discs that are already there. Oh yeah, and I want to replace the 2000e box for a stronger one.

So a few more pennies to go yet.

By the way, the car has not been driven on the road for 12 years now so that expains the tyre stickers. The set I replaced also still had the stickers on them!! But the new Gp4 15" rims were only fitted a few weeks prior tp the pics being taken....so there... http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Vince, the reistra is called Charlie and yeah he lives in Seaham. He has seen UMX a few times and is shitting himself about sorting a valuation out. Where do we start??

CheeRS again folks. UMX will be on the road for next year!!

Dave,

I saw her at AVO Day and Last Year's RS one at Donny - she looks absolutely mint. I didn't realise that it was like it was when you bought it. I thought it had always been a minter. Makes me like it even more!

Can't believe you've waited so long to drive it. I'm sure it'll be worth it though http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Cheers Andy,
Its been off the road for so long now that a few more months are worth the wait. I am looking at early next year now if I am honest. Just a few minor bits to complete the project for the new year and I will be happy.

When I bought UMX it was in desperate need of TLC. It was far from a minter and had been bodged mechanically. Found out the hard way just how much can go wrong with a BDA in the wrong paws!!!

I am certainly looking forward to me first real blast!!

Also since last year I have fitted yet again brand new Cams, Billet Steel Crank #2 and just last week Arrow H section Forged Rods. Looking forward to the song at 9000 rpm!!

I will be having abit of a BDA clearout sale in the near future also. I have interested parties already but the answers to questions to date on my spares are..

5.230" Std Journal Gen. Cosworth Steel Forged Rods (DA Part No.)
Gordon Allen Steel Crank with -10 thou on Mains and -30 thou on Big Ends.

I will be posting a full list of all kinds of BDA, Mk1 and Mk2 RS and all kinds of general Escort bits and bobs very soon!

I love Escorts Me!! http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/laugh.gif

6 pots!! http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/eek.gif
A real nice brake set up you have there Dave http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/thumbs.gif you will need some good belts fitted to stop you being thrown through the windscreen with all that stopping power http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/wink.gif

BTW whats that rear brake set up your are planning on fitting, they look like *cough* vauxhall *cough* calipers?

Anyway whats this thread doing here? I thought a MK1 RS1600 BDA Escort was old skool, not new skool http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/confused.gif

BigDave

Steve, yeah they are GM sets in that pic mate. I thought they were for illustration only but it turns out they are the only ones they do, simply not good enough for this kiddie so its back to the drawing board! They also just use the road/cheaper calipers in the rear conversion so also no good for me!

If push comes to shove then I will just have to opt for full hydraulic handbrake rear set ups with 4 pot calipers, there are available but not very MOT friendly!!

I have asked for this thread to be moved to new skool, it must have got forgptten when the change happened! Where are you Mr Mods???

Dalek
21-10-2003, 16:26
Do you still have the wide steel wheels that were on the car in the first picture ? If so would you sell them ? They would look great on my Anglia http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/smile.gif

The rear ones in the picture thats attached to this post... Do you have four of them ?

Ah thats better, its in the right place now http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/wink.gif

yeah those GM single pot ones do look a bit lame, much better with 2 or 4 pots on the rear http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/wink.gif

6 pots on the front, 4 pots on the rear, thats a grand total of according to my maths 20 pots! http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/eek.gif
real stopping power http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/thumbs.gif, be like throwing a boat anchor out the window http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Craig, yes I have four of em, and tyres! Got lots of stuff like that. Mr Hoarder #2 almost!

Steve, top of the class for maths mate!! I reckon I will end up just going for hydraulic in the end. I have the same on a mates Orange Mk2 (;)) and it passes!! Just a tad wary of passing the LTSA test on entry to NZ???
