Before GpB was outlawed in 86 there was a GpS that was supposed to take over in 87 ,there were rumors at the time that a joint effort was taking place between ARG and GM in the development of cars for this . GM wre to field a 4wd astra with a development of the manta 400 engine and ARG a Maestro with the V64V engine and the same transmission as the astra. The Astra became the astra 4s which John Welsh used in rallycross in the 80s but little is known of the Maestro. Ive heard rumors of 2 6R4 maestros at longbridge until a few years back but thse apparently were fitted with the same driveline as the metro .
Can anyone shead any light on these items or was it just 80s car mag fantisy? It would be nice if some pictures exist of the maestro !

Cheers

Haven't seen one before but would imagin some were made, as the Metro 6R4 is the chassis of a Maestro....... with the metro shell on top (so i'm told.)

Not heard of the Maestro, but John Welsh lives just round the corner from me and a friend of mine was one of his mechanics. That Astra was proper rapid,as was the Gartrak Escort before it http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/smile.gif
