Not only in America, Daz. I went to the National Cruise a couple of weeks back (yes it was mainly full of crap cars, but there were some nice Evo's, Skylines, RS500's, a Mk1 Escort etc) and there was a car with this suspension.
I saw it parked up from a distance and I thought it was just really lowered, and got up close to have a look and it just seemed like it was really low still [sills approx 3-4 inch from floor]. Then the owner came back and drove off and then highered the car...
..The best thing about it, which drew me to it in the first place, was that it was a totally standard, 4/5 door Mk3 Cortina GT http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/laugh.gif . Still had the original steels on it and everything.. made worth sitting in my mates Corsa for over an hour getting down there well worth it.
Cheers, Gomp.
