View Full Version : Micra Tuning

This micra has a turbo, and held off a mitsi evo6 (which was running 1.2 bar boost). http://media.turbosport.co.uk/2002/12/20021216232321507763.jpg
Thats fast.
Does anyone think it would be (relatively easily) possible to drop a 2.0 litre engine into a micra? i seen a 2 litre zetec in a fiesta and theres loadsa room left, and the micra engine bay isnt too much smaller. I reckon its on to fit, then how much torque do u want? Throttle bodies and cams..... http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/drool.gif

Where'd you get that picture Steve? RCDevelopments?

A 2.0 engine would be nice in my bay. Especially a Cosworth lump pushing 440bhp. That'd fly.

Stevenoz

Yes RC developments. And yes a 2.0litre would go sweet in your bay, 150bhp just lik that, 170 with filter/chip/exhaust, and then theres throttle bodies and cams and headwork. expensive, but oh my god it would fly!! http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/shocked.gif

Even a standard 1.6 would drop it below 9 seconds to 60.

Stevenoz

oh easily. But you dont wanna just drop into the 8's, you want -sorry- NEED 2 litres if you wanna really begin bemding the rules of physics. http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/laugh.gif

IanLorenc

Yes, but the 1.6 doesn't look that different from the 1.3 so to the uninitiated, there'd look nothing amiss. Which you couldn't really get away with if the bay's packed out with 150 horses. A 1.6 would be enough to hold Camel rear's GSI's at bay anyway!

Been thinking about what you said today. We really need to pull the Micra up against a Primera, I'm not sure if it will fit, I've hear it goes in but you have to modify the suspension turrets.
150bhp and a nice wedge of torque would be pleasing though.

Damn, I need money.

yeh but yr bonnet should remain closed (at cruises etc) to further add fuel to the myth . And when ppl see it go, http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/clint.gif they'll wanna see whats in it. And you say: 'shoppin car mate, 1.3'
And whats this about a 1.6 holdin off camelsrear GSi's? your 1.3 does that fine.
Ultimately, i think a 1.6 will slot in nice, but for not much more a 2.0 litre will be SO much quicker. Although, if the turrets have to be modified it could cost more.
Deffo need to park up alongside a primera to check it out, and im keepin a lookout for one at work to get some measurements... and if its a rear ended one, the engine. http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/grin.gif

2.0 would be fantastic but I'm thinking modified 1.6 then maybe with Nitrous as well.

Good idea i guess, in term of do-ability its #1. And the sound you would get out of throttle bodies. mmm. Dont forget to keep it under your hat though, play it down a much as poss, claim you were never gonna do it, or that you have too much debt. throw em off the scent. http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/smirk.gif

IanLorenc

or that you have too much debt

I have got too much debt though!!!

oh, yeah, http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/wink.gif, so you are... http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/wink.gif
all the more reason to do it tho. That makes no sense i know, but i dont care. http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/smirk.gif

Will probably lower it/get rims next. Then think about what to do with a power increase.

Stevenoz
11-01-2003, 18:57
mm yes lower it on rims. 14 inch sunny GTi-R rims will flow beautifully, and be in great supply cos all GTi-R's are rimmed up. And their nissan rims, so cletus types wont think its modded. oh how wrong they are...http://www.turbosport.co.uk/pano/saved/310-12714.png

Dunno, I really want 15's if I can help it. I still want those TSW Xenon's.

Stevenoz
12-01-2003, 16:55
mmm, yeah. you should get 15's in tsw flavour while i sort out some beacoup new engine. sweet.

IanLorenc
12-01-2003, 18:21
Was looking at some 2nd hand 14" Nissan alloys but they looked a bit small. May go with 15" TSW's after all.

Let's get prices on engines before we do anything else.

Stevenoz
13-01-2003, 20:15
Ok. £200 for an engine. Not a good 'un, i think up to 800photos will net a nice lo miles one wid a box, and most ancillaries. http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/smirk.gif

Stevenoz
13-01-2003, 20:19
hmm. Just thought about the 2wd cossie engine on here, for £1100 i think it was. No box, but 99% of ancillaries. Seein as that was a cossie, you could maybe get a 1.6i engine+box for quite reasonable dough? http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/confused.gif

IanLorenc
13-01-2003, 20:43
Don't wanna pay more than 800 for all if I can help it as I can get the whole car for that!

Stevenoz
13-01-2003, 23:41
I supppose so, but you might get a high quality engine for that? However: the whole, working car you could test drive, check for smoke, check the box shifts well etc... and then like i said you have everything. All imprtant wiring loom too. We might need to chop some bits in from that. ??

Just wondering where we could do all this?
My dad would freak all the way into the 22nd century if I turn up with a piece 'o' shite and park up on the front.
(Although, he's planning to get rid of the Toyota and put the 'gopher' in the garage so there'd be space...until Neil get's his Mini...so there'd be room for a couple of years yet.

PMSL! hehe. they are cool, but a liitle slow. Perfect for a learner. Dont forget to drill into him that a good driver never stops learning. http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/banana.gif

I tried to drill that into John and I thought I'd succeeded, but the first time I went out with him in the car, it was obvious I hadn't. The r/about incident to which you bore witness, broke my f**king heart...because I'd recommended Dad to sell him the 1.6S and I'd been the only person defending him when other people said it was too much for him. I was the only one saying that he was sensible, that he could handle the responsibility. When he proved he couldn't (without getting too mushy), I was almost in tears...you may have noticed I was a little emotional when we pulled over afterwards.

That was an incident and a half, his non drivin girlfriend telling him to brake did it for me. hmmm, scared in the back seat....

IanLorenc

Anyway, let's get back on topic.

Have we scratched the 1.6 in favour of 2.0?

Stevenoz
16-01-2003, 21:41
yeah i think so. its more of a serious conversion, both in terms of speed and coolness increases. it wud rock so hard.

IanLorenc
16-01-2003, 23:56
Or what about a 1.6 VTEC unit? If it can go in a Mini (just) then it'll surely go in mine for more bhp!

Stevenoz
17-01-2003, 20:31
hmm, if its the 'ballistic beancan' mini you mean, then that was 200bhp integra unit, and it had to be stretched 90mm, but that would still go in yours, and deffo the 1.6 VTEC.

IanLorenc
17-01-2003, 23:35
Ooooh, I like! Me likey very muchey!

Stevenoz
18-01-2003, 00:13
hmm, 200bhp, with potential for more... 6speed box too (i think) sweet.

Stevenoz
18-01-2003, 00:14
you should likey, you should likey very muchey!!!!!

IanLorenc

Let me get the handling sorted first so I get no more of those little traction loss/understeery moments like we got when I was giving you a lift home tonight!

Stevenoz
19-01-2003, 20:09
lol, that was quite fun actually, but if your looking at power incrases, then that needs to be eradicated.

IanLorenc
20-01-2003, 00:22
After dropping you off, I did try for a bit of lift off oversteer, but you have to REALLY push it hard to get anything over neutral drift.

Stevenoz
20-01-2003, 23:28
do you know what the lever behind the gearknob does?

IanLorenc
21-01-2003, 00:53
Yes, it engages the 100 shot of Nitrous...I mean, er...you mean the handbrake, right?
