I'd like to know EVERYTHING about these lovely motors please, or of any decent links. http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/cool.gif

I know they are powerfull, juicy, pricey, prone to cracking heads etc..
Are parts expensive etc..?

First quote I got was £500. I've seen worse and I'm sure I could get that a bit cheaper. Still a lot though.

my mate had one, it was nice apart from the rotten floor, it went like sh*t off a highly polished shovel, and it loved doin donuts, and more importantly, it was less than his modded xr3i rs replica to insure, 400 pounds less!!!, he got his through cis i think, 21 years old, 1y ncb and a claim the year before, 650 bucks tpft, it wasnt worthy of fully comp ins, the only car in my town that he raced and got beat by, was a corrado g60. He wants one of them now

I had an E reg one a few years back. Great car, lovely engine. 171 bhp but lower gearing than normal 325i, direct 5th gear. 0-60 about 7 seconds, top speed 135. Very torquey low down and a nice kick at 3500rpm. Would spin right round to the limiter. LSD standard too.
Only problems I had were a cracked exhaust manifold, worn drivers seat (don't they all), and it was going scabby round the rear sills, arches and back panel above the back lights. Because of the slipper and rear camber, back tyres wear quite quickly. Apart from that, I'd have another one. Great fun, but not much room for kids in the back, hence why I sold mine http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/sad.gif

what shape you after??
the old E30 shape?

if so things to watch out for are rust and electrical problems all service parts are cheap from people like eurocarparts and german & swedish
The head cracking problem is not really an issue these days but dodgy electrics are the main worry causing poor starting/running cutting out ect and they are a bitch to track down.

My E30 sport is a stripped out trackday machine and i must say i am well pleased with it the worst point of the car is the lifeless steering and stupid amount of turns lock2lock 4.4 http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/confused.gif on my non power steering early model.

but on the plus side the straight six sounds fantastic and the whole car in general feels very solid and now its been on a diet feels very nippy with a nice punch at 3,500 rpm right upto the redline.
good condition E30 sports are getting very hard to find beware dodgy examples with crap after market suspension
tuning wise they are quite expensive to tune with the ususal route of exhaust/chip filter costing £700 and only gives about an extra 10bhp

Hi Dunc,
Yeah I'm looking at the E30 models. I'm not looking to buy one (not yet anyway) but want to learn a bit about them as they look lovely, and I really licked my dads 320i Baur TC he had. I know what you mean about the electrical probs. My dads one had a mystery fault which cost him over £1200 in BMW diagnostics alone. I can't remember what it turned out to be. My friends 316i had an electrical fault it eventually turned out to be the ECU!.

Still, I like a challenge http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/wink.gif Hows yours coming along these days?
