Hi Furry
Nice bike, you could get the wheels powered and polished like mine, makes a big difference to the look of the bike.

Did you do the rims yourself wheels244 ?, might do mine too, though I,ve got the rarer and faster red/black R1. he,he .

Hi m8
Rarer ? R1's are about as rare cats eyes . lol
And faster ? Sounds like a challenge !!
Mine is kicking out 151.2 bhp with dyno charts to prove.
I think it's safe to say we'd both end up doing time if we were flat out side by side. lol
I do like the black frames, I've considered getting mine black anodised - but it's a lot of work to strip and rebuild.
No, i didn't do the wheels myself - too much like hard work, as you know the wheels are quite rough cast, so I thought it was £80 well spent getting them polished.
Got any pics of the new bike ?

rough cast, poof i polished both my old fzr 1000 rims myself when i fightered her! Now that was hard work. Lovely bike though, got to poliosh the rims on my blade they are the only thing unpolished http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/smile.gif

Hi Carl
Yeh, do the wheels, they'll look good on a blade. I've had two, a RRN and a RRT - both fantastic bikes.
Here's a pic before i put them on the bike so you can have a closer look.

Hi Carl ( again )
Just read another post about your modded 'blade. Thought you might like a look at my brothers. There's not much he hasn't done to this ! If I told you he made the rear sprocket it will give you some idea how well it's been engineered.

So wheels what have you done to yours to get that power, and do you mean at the crank or the rear wheel ?,not doubting you mate just interested.

Hi blade
Yeh, I thought it was a load of crap as well when the previous owner told me, but then he gave me the dyno charts that he was given when it was fitted with a new exup under warranty.
I presume it's at the crank not the wheel. It certainly goes very well. He said it was standard ( apart from the titanium can ) but he did have a WRX Imprezza, a 4lt V8 Westfield and a brand new 'Blade - so he obviously likes a bit of power - my mate thinks he's had it worked on - either way I'm not complaining. It certainly wheelies very well !!

Mine only had 1600 miles on it when I bought it, and it was 3 years old, seems genuine as well, the guy had a load of other old jap bikes, some of them he,d had from new and he said he never got time to ride any of them, mines done 4500 miles now and it does seem to be getting a bit quicker as it loosens up,I had a ride out in the summer with a guy who,s R1 had done over 30000 miles and his was,nt any slower than mine. I,m deciding now whether to keep this bike or get something newer, to be honest the bikes fast enough, the only reason to change it would be to get something with better handling.

What don't you like about the handling ?
Mine is a far more capable bike than I will ever be rider. I does shake it's head now and again when on the power and hitting small bumps in the road, a lot of people fit steering dampers, but it just adds a bit to the excitement for me and also reminds me to treat it with a bit of respect. I love the mid range power - even better than the 'blades I've had, and they were great.
Mines got 12000 on it now. I rode an RSV Mille recently with a view to changing it, but much prefered the R1.

Hi wheels, I,m well pleased with my R1, though I have got an Ohlins steering damper on it, need it really because I,ve dropped the yokes a bit to quicken up the steering, I had an almighty tankslapper on my blade a while back and it was f*****g scarey, enough to make me get a damper anyway, with regard to the handling apparently the new R1,blade and gixer are supposed to be easier to ride faster, but I have,nt mae my mind up yet.

some nice work gone in on that blade mate! I do like r1s but whatever i own tends to get fightered one way or another! http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/jester.gifUsually via a painfull route as well http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/jester.gif Been offered an early r1 which may become a track bike or end up on ebay in parts got to see yet!

You'd be amazed how much the power varies on modern stuff, especially R1's and ZX12's.
We've had R1's on the dyno at work making high 130's at the back wheel and others up to 150bhp.
The ZX12 has got to be the worst, in one day we did two, the first made 155 at the wheel std and the next made 175, both bikes had done similar mileage and were similar condition.
Fitted a system and power-commander to the latter and it left with 187bhp http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/thumbs.gif http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/thumbs.gif http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/thumbs.gif
Then again we've had a few restricted bikes that there owners didnt even notice, Like the 2000 R1 came in for a race can and setup, Was making 99hp and left with 145hp http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/banana.gif, He said he could keep up with his mates ok before.(probably http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/shit.gif himself next time out though!!)
Or another ZX12 again making 100hp and left with 163hp http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/banana.gif owned it from new and thought that was what they were like http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/crazy.gif
Then theres the other direction, fit a £1200 underseat exhaust system and loose nearly 30hp has got to be the best yet http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/doh.gif

Hello Lowscorts
Where's "work" ? Sounds like a good job.
What could I do to squeeze a few extra out of my R1 ?
As for as I know it's standard apart from the BOS titanium can.

PDQ, were a Dyno centre and distributor for loads of stuff , check the website www.pdq1.com (http://www.pdq1.com) .
Were also in the process of installing a small car dyno with load control specifically for bike-engined cars (Oh and theres also a 1000hp 2wd car dyno thats been there since I started, but never been used, which will also be up and running early next year).
As for the R1, Dont fit a dynojet kit, Raise the front of the tank up 10mm, fit a K+N and get it setup, This the best way to go without proper tuning (hi-comp,cams,flow etc).
Pretty familiar with R1's as I raced one most of this year.
