the 2 type of 4x4 sapph ECU's are 1 for cat equipped vehicles (later) and the non cat equiped vehicles (earlier)

If you car has a lambda sensor you need the later L8 ECU

Thks again DAZ

Did u know that question was coming next, lol, Mines is the earlier one with the red top engine.

Only seen 1 other saph around this area ( K plater ) which is no good, plus i don't know him anyways.

Any idea's if it is my ECU, what I would pay for a second hand unit, sry for all the questions!!!!

I'm 99.9% sure all the 4x4 saphs had the L8 ECU, maybe the very late models were equipped with the P8 (the big turbo Escorts defineatly were) http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/grin.gif

Whats the problem with your car?.....

I think a P8 ECU will run the car without major issues....L6 and L1 will have a problem mainly with the throttle pot

Exactley Daz, thats why all 4x4's have the L8 ECU as the TPS is different from the 2wd http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/wink.gif The P8 ECU is a straight swap for the L8.

My car is very sick @ mo, here's the symtoms

It will tick over fine, but as soon as u touch throttle it cuts out, it then can be fine for a few mins taking a good reving and be driven, but it's not long before it starts missing and back firing. Then cuts out once iv'e stopped and takes a while to start.

Car is @ local dealer who are struggling BIGTIME to cure it.

The lad I know from garage called and asked me if i knew someone with a cozzy to swap over the ECU & module on pass/inner wing as they think it's one of these that causing the problems, Hmmmmm!!!

As above says i know a few cozzy owners, but none with same model as mine, a very good mate has a 94L Escort with a blue top engine.

Would i be right in saying with info you guys gave i could put his P8 ECU in and IGN/Module to see if that cures the prob??

Again, muchoz grassias for replys

As long as both cars are standard then yes, should work fine, you may have to also swap over the MAP sensor as i think the big turbo escort has a 2.5 bar standard and the sierra's have a 2 bar as standard, don't forget to do this as the chip will be different for the MAP sensor type used http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/grin.gif

When my Granada did that it was the coil, and plugs that were knackered. Could very well be ignition amp though. Thats the thing on the inner wing (I think).

(Woohoo I made a technical contribution! http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/clint.gif)
