View Full Version : Cosworth Question
How many of you folks run your cossie without the plastic four bolt under tray that protects your engine bay ??
I only ask because my one has cracked on one side to the point that its gonna split in half if i dont rivet a plate across the fracture http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/clint.gif
But seeing as im going to change the cambelt next week i was thinking about leaving it off for now even though im not happy about the lower half of the cambelt being exposed to road crap e.t.c.!!
Oh, and while your looking here im thinking of changing the cambelt tensioner as well this time.Do any of you change this regularly ??
Cheers Andy.... http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/grin.gif
They aren't necessary at all. They are used for cars with air conditioning fitted to aid 'through flow'. http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/smile.gif
My Dads has one and we always refit it.......
We have however got a peice of aluminuim across the centre but the whole length of the tray to give it some support but also it acts as a skid plate if anything bounces up off the road
there is a a ford spec for changing the timing belt tensioner every so many thousand miles but cant remember how many, you get a timing belt kit from your lacal dealer that includes belt and tensioner
cheeRS stu
ps i always fit genuine ford belts to my cossie as they carry a 1yr no quibble guarantee,ie if it brakes ford will pay for parts and labour to fix engine
was wondering if the undertray was needed myself as mines off at the mo due to the rebuild but its also got abit of a split
Sapphy, ive got air-con.. Doh http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/grin.gif
Daz, looks like i'll need a sheet of aluminium for my split http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/grin.gif
Stu, i bet Ford only honour that guarantee if THEY fit the belt and not you http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/shocked.gif http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/grin.gif
John, get your rivet gun ready. http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/grin.gif
Cheers to those that replied http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/wink.gif http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/wink.gif http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/grin.gif
mine was junked as soon as i got the car! just another thing to break and cause more damage when it does, but then my car is in bits most of the time, no point putting one on http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/jester.gif
Andy, don't worry about it, it doesn't make that much difference. Leave it off and think nothing of it http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/smile.gif
It's also handy if you work on the car cuase it's an f-ing knightmare if you have a tray and you drop a socket, screw etc.. down there!
Now thats another good point, the amount of times ive had to drop that bloody tray down coz ive let something fall down there http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/rsocmoan.gif http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/rsocmoan.gif
The only reason ive not left it off before is that im paranoid something will get into the cambelt from underneath http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/clint.gif http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/clint.gif
But if no one has had a problem with this then it stays off from now on i think http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/grin.gif
Unless you know different http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/wink.gif http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/wink.gif
All cossies without air con survice without, so why shouldn't you?! http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/smile.gif
Err, coz i HAVE got air-con http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/laugh.gif http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/laugh.gif http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/laugh.gif
I was referring to your cambelt safety query http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/tongue.gif
Sorry, im a bit slow http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/snore.gif http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/snore.gif http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/laugh.gif
