yeah but has it been setup to run without it ?

am I going to fug something by changing it ?

Leave it off m8.

It has obviously been set up by a tuner or someone to run without one, like MANY RST's. Mine is disconncted too http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/smirk.gif, I believe it is to help with the boost or something like that.

FF_Mark

OK, I'll have to get a boost gauge to see whats going on in there http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/laugh.gif

OK, having the AMAL valve disconnected, no major biggie, as long as something is connecting your compressor housing to the actuator, but only having one pipe connected, thats silly, where does that pipe go, and what is controlling the wastegate?

The C port goes to the Compressor housing of the turbo, the W port goes to the Wastegate actuator, the R port is to atmosphere. I'd check what you actuator is connected to! http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/grin.gif

FF_Mark

Just been out and checked.

The pipe from the actuator goes back to the turbo , so I guess they've pulled the pips off the AMAL and joined them together (there is a join)

Is the bad ?

wes
30-04-2003, 22:19
not bad, at least the wastegate will actually be working! this is crap from a performance point of view, as the wastegate will be opening almost straight away. I don't know why people disconnect the amal valve, it was put there for a reason! i'd try reconecting it http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/grin.gif

I'll have to try and find the wiring though, could see it a minute ago !!

Could I fug it up and make it go bang ?

wes
30-04-2003, 22:28
i cant see how, unles it's has poor mapping, don't go ragging it up the road if your that worried, put a boost gauge on it and see whats going on. The valve is normally open i.e. letting air go from port C to port W, when you supply power to it the air gets diverted to port R, giving you more pressure, this is why it is used for boost control. You can give yourself 2 stage boost control by fitting a switch to the ground wire of the valve, basically low (off) and high (on) boost http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/grin.gif

FF_Mark
30-04-2003, 22:34
hhhhm, so would this current setup be like high or low boost ?

wes
30-04-2003, 22:35
low boost

FF_Mark
30-04-2003, 22:40
OK, I'll get a boost gauge and then see what happens when I plug it back together.

Just found this pic, it makes a bit more sense now.

If you reconnect it your boost will go up quite a bit.

It is possible you're running a chip that doesn't support the amal valve and that's why it's disconnected.

The stg 1 tune was done by power engineering, so maybe they've done it.

I'll be fitting a boost gauge before I do anything.

stu_msport

The amal valve will increase the boost pressure simply by fitting it, it doesnt have to be powered up to do this.

Unless you have a boost gauge and are prepared to adjust the actuator to lower the boost to compensate, DONT DO THIS.

Also, the "R" port can NOT go to atmosphere on Bosch KE, it must be returned to the airflow meter.

Best Regards,
Stu

The amal valve was connected already, but only one port of it ??? FF where did that pipe to the amal valve goto exactley?

Is there not a bleed valve on it ?

Haven't found one anywhere under the bonnet !!

put the pipes from the actuator and compresoer back on find the black plug and put that back on, the amal valve stops the turbo boostin over the preset actuator limit, i.e if your actuator is set to 15psi the amal valve will only let the actuator run that amount of boost, as quoted by mark shead of M.A.DEVELOPMENTS

I've hopefully got a Ford Racing boost gauge coming tomorrow, so after that is fitted I will start having a look.

Those Ford racing guages look the same as mine (minus the Ford Racing graphic) But mine are autometer?? Have a look at the top of the guage (on the face) Just inside the bezil

What does it say?

Nice guages though!! Look wicked at night with the green bulb cover http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/clap.gif

That would be why then! http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/blush.gif

Does that its gonna have the same problem with the fitting on the back being a bit bigger than the normal BSP fitting?

Oh and wes thanks for that place!! Think automotive! These people are the bollocks!!

errr, don't know, never fitted one before, plus I've just noticed the T piece is missing from the box, so that will be coming next week http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/mad.gif

Right...
The problem I had with the autometer guages was that the fitting on the back of the guage was an american size (NPT I think) When the standard hose fitting hose in the uk is called BSP. If I used the fittings that came with the kit It would have been ok but I did not want to run that nylon hose into the car on my oil pressure guage. So i brought a nice braded one and thats where my trouble started http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/rsocmoan.gif For the boost pressure guage I used the kit that come with it because if that splits it will only leak air into the car as where if the oil pressure line was to split I would be sitting in oil http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/laugh.gif

FF_Mark
16-05-2003, 15:51
So how did you overcome it then ?

I've got an oil pressure gauge too, waiting to be fitted.

Wes gave me the contact details of a company called Think automotive. These people do every thing for pipe fittings etc and were really helpful. I went everywhere previous to this and no one could help. But these people had them on the shelf.

I posted a while ago on here I will try and find those contact details again.

Rob at SCC said he was sending me a fitting kit next week for it, but I guess I'll still be left with that nylon pipe crap.

are they using it as a bleed valve type thing as it will let out a certain amount of air out other than that fuck knows
