Its 4x4, for my escort cosworth.

I have broken 3 standard mt75 boxes and want a box that is stronger.

What is the name of the company that makes the R&D kits?

R&D make the R&D kits! http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Quaife make a similar kit as well if you get no joy. Or don't like their customer service! http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/laugh.gif

I've been reading a few threads about this Escort Cossie gearbox discussions now. Most interesting (and expensive) was Sean Bicknell breaking his R&D box...

This at least makes me wonder what one are paying for with some of these uprated boxes (ok, I know what you pay for but still). After all they are very expensive. The R&D box that broke was about £4750 + VAT.

Off course there could have been a production-fault but that doesn't make it much better.

My point is that other people that considering spending large amounts of money on a gearbox should now consider what they spend it on even more carefully that people have done up till now. I am not saying any specific make are not good but I think that money might be best spent on a used Quaife gearbox. I haven't heard of any of the quaife boxes breaking. I suppose they aren't that expensive when used either. Compared to when new.

This is all IMHO off course.

The thing is that Seans box is a 6 speed dog box where as Wes's R&D box is basically the same (idea) as the Quaife big tooth syncro box. These big tooth boxes are strong but don't change gear as quick as a dog engagement box.

I didn't know that DazC, good info. Off course beeing able to change gear fast is real nice but it ain't worth much if the box breaks.

I was hinting at the Sequential Quaife box by the way. It's kind of another league but used the price could be livable-like.

I think there are a lot of different options with the cossie boxes out there but unfortunately the trick stuff doesnt seem strong enough for the kind of power most people are going for! http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/sad.gif

Steve Sccott at A1 RallySport rates the Quaife big tooth for 500bhp and the 6 speed R&D dogger at 350bhp....Quaife is 2k and the other is 5k. Needles to say my Dads now has the Quaife! http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/laugh.gif

What about Tran x gears?
I know a lot of the rally lads use them, they have been going for over 20 years.
I think they are based near Coventry.

The problem with all these gearboxes is that the straight cut gears are so noisey I have a Quaife ready to go in the Anglia but I decided not to go this route with to cossie.
I have gone for a Tremec gearbox these can take the power and are very quiet and easy to use. ....aparently http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/laugh.gif
