Question to all of you knowledgable fellows, which would be the best way to fit a air filter to a cossied Mk2????
I have the cut out in the inner wing, but have just seen a photo of a filter fitted straight onto the turbo.
Im not sure which 1 would be best as i have seen many filters in the cut out inner wings yet this ''filter straight on turbo'' option seems much easier, so is there a reason for the why most of you guys have the filter further away??????

Think the main thing here is that fitting it straight on the turbo will mean it will suck in hot air, where as under the wing will be a lot cooler.

but it might be wetter???????????????

that one looks well mint. my thoughts on it are this....obviously the colder the better, BUT think about what happens, the air is drawn in, heated to maybe 100degC by the turbo and then cooled, so filter intake temp will have less effect than on a naturally aspirated car, obviously the size, efficiency, ducting of the intercooler will have a lot more effect than if the air to the filter is a few degrees warmer.
this is mine i didn't dare cut the inner wing but i spent a lot of time making an airtight tapered dust onto the (4x4) intercooler.

obviously under the inner wing is best provided it doesn't get dirt or water in it every car is different

That MKI is gorgeous, any more pics?

I'd have to say if your going to tune and are looking to get your inlet temps as low as possible sticking it under the wing is your best bet. If not try and insure you have enough properly placed vents in your bonnet to get a decent airflow through your engine bay, MKII flat fronts are a bit iffy in this area and can build up ALOT of heat quickly which your just going to suck in.

If you do stick your filter under your wing box it in to stop dirt and water coming off your tyres ruining it.

I used to have mine like this..

but changed it to this and have seen about a ten degree drop in inlet temps on the same intercooler.

Mike

I'll get a pic of my underwing shield asap. Basically it just blocks off the front inner wing from the tyre. Air is fed from the front up to the filter...
