Hi everyone.

Here are a few piccies of my mates bottom end etc.. This happened while cruising along in 4th gear at 30mph! The car was running std boost and was not modified in any way.

As you can see, it knackered the gearbox too!!

And the top of the piston which broke is very black compared to the rest of em.

Oh and what the hell are these bits which were found inside the sump? one looks to me a metal springy clip type thing and the other is plastic!!!

looks like rod bolt failure http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/sad.gif

The plastic thing is the vent baffle.

Looking at the crank it MIGHT have been oil starvation as well (i say might because the piccies are not clear/detailed enough to tell)

It doesn't even look like an RST block either!!

Looks like the rod has gone through the side, hit the starter and consequently smashed the bell housing off where the starter bolts too!

How much of the blue sealer was in your oil pick up or sump. I never use sealer on rst sump gaskets its a dangerous game.

There didnt seem to be any mate, but it is my mates sump not mine.

Mine has definately NOT got blue sealant in it, I wouldnt trust it myself either

That?s got to be bad luck. Not only does the bottom end become scrap but also the box.

if it was oil starvation the rod and crank would show signs of heat around the journal http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/smile.gif

You threw the gearbox away for the sake of a casing http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/clint.gif

Thats why i said MIGHT, Clint. The crank pin/journal does look slightly scored with the oil drilling looking like it has shards of metal over the hole but the bearing face of the rod isn't visible to tell. It is possible but without better pics, we can't rule it out! http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/smile.gif
