Trying to start my RST when its hot is almost impossible, it turns over mega slow, then if your lucky it will speed up and start.

I've heard that there should be a heatshield around the starter, but I don't have one.

Does anyone know of any other solution ???

I had the same problem with my S2. In the end I got some thermal wrap and put it around the down pipe.

Or go to Fords and get one. If the still do em??

Always use thermal wrap, don't like ford heat sheild it is a bit of a pain. You could fit a ib5 gearbox then the starter would be at the back of the engine - no heat probs but a big job.

What lenght of the stuff would I need to do the whole down pipe, and how do you keep it from undoing and falling on the floor ? http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/blush.gif

Buy the silicon based stuff made by TAS, it doesn't deteriorate, as i found the cool-it stuff lasts about a month before it falls to pieces, zip ties or not! And those metal zip ties should have a government health warning on them, expect to cut yourself 4-5 times when using them http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/clint.gif

I know someone who fitted this stuff on their RST and it damaged the exhaust (blew a hole at the bottom of the down pipe) because a huge amount of heat was carried further down the pipe to the first unprotected section of exhaust.

He may have had fueling probs too, but the heat was focused by the heat wrap rather than dissapated. http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/sad.gif
