I read a very detailed post about this the other day, probably on the RSOC BB, so tough luck there;).

I think it was by BigP who comes on here now and again.

What I do know it that it seems to be a ballache to me. lol http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/smile.gif

The gearbox is coming out in the very near future and guess most of ABS comes with it, so it would seem like a good time to chuck it out.

I know you have to change the master cylinder thing to a non ABS one because of the feeds from it.

Should be ok with the driveshafts and just bin the rest of the crap system.

I am not 100% sure to be honest, but it possibly is easier than I imagine.

Hadn't thought of that, but what if I bought the car like it and didn't know http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/wink.gif

Sore your post on rsoc as well. I took the enigine and box out today and all I can tell you is there were 4 brake lines going to abs modules and 2 out of master cylinder so guessing there might be a little more to "riping it all out" but not sure if you will need new master cylinder. Why not seal up the 2 holes, brake hose? failing that why not change the reservoir only? sure someone knows.........

can't you loop the two extra m.cyl holes together or find out the correct thread and put some bolts in there????

Or just get the brake pipes and servo etc from a bog standard escort like a 1.3 that has been smashed up and then get new lines made up to their shape??

as far as the rservoir goes get a mark 4 xr3i one it is same but without the extra abs out-pipes.

1st of all mate dont just rip pipes off n block em! u wont have any brakes! you need all the non abs setup from another turbo, the master cylinder has a bigger internal bore than a xr3i, u will need to remove the compensators from the rear swingin arms and replace with pipes, and the obvious pipework under the bonnet, u wont need to tell ur insurance as they do not ask when u insure a turbo whether it has abs or not! as long as u use turbo master the brakes will be as they came from the factory mate, hope this helps

Been talking to friends with rst and some people at rsoc who have done it and they have ALL simply removed it and it works great.

Hope this helps.

First thing is to go down your local scrappy and find an old XR3i, now pull the plastic reservoir off, its just held in with rubber seals so just give it a good pull. You don?t need the whole master cylinder assembly, just the reservoir. You could just block the holes off but for the price (mine was free but I wouldn?t pay more than a fiver) this is the simplest and neatest method.

Once home drain the whole system, it did this by using an easi-bleed with no fluid in it to blow all the old crappy fluid out. Now rip your old one off and push fit the new one in, it is quite a tight fit so it might take quite a bit of pressure but it does fit.

Next stage is to remove all the pumps and associated pipes, I did this with no engine in so it was relatively easy. Whether it can be done with the engine in I don?t now. Although you could just bypass them and leave it to a later date to get rid.

The next stage is to reconnect everything up, I used new copper pipes made up at a local motor factors which cost a grand total of £3.50. Usually the pipe runs out of the master cylinder into the ABS pump then to either of the T-piece?s located on each inner wing, then to each corner of the car. All you need to do is get two lengths made up with the appropriate fittings on and run them from the master cylinder round to the appropriate T-piece. If you have a look in the Haynes Manual to the ABS layout diagram it becomes very obvious what needs connecting up to what, don?t be afraid of it as it?s very, very easy to figure out.

Once everything?s connected back up nice and tight bleed the brakes. I haven?t had any problems since doing mine and the bias feels fine. The brakes themselves also feel much nicer, a lot more like a newer car rather than really vague.

P.s. its also a lot quicker and much easier to change gearboxes without it. I was quoted £25+VAT fitting without ABS, £75 + VAT with ABS.

Let me know if you have any more Q's

I have disabled the ABS but not completly removed it and
the MOT tester nearly failed my car! He said because the car
is supposed to come with it, it should be there.

Does anyone know if I have to touch anything at the back
end of the car? Isnt there a bias thingy? Does this need to come out?

My ABS has removed, and the brakes are alot better. I still have the bias valve at the rear.
