Ok then people, seeing as the RSBB is allways down, and can be a bit of a bugger to access, lets start our new thread here http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/clap.gif
Can we let everyone who is a regular poster on the old thread know that we have moved over here.
I have started to paint further bits to put back on the car, ( once i get it back from the bodyshop), I have also painted the throttle housing, and will do all my inlet manifold and crossover pipe when i get it back from A1 Rallysports.
Has anyone got any recommendations on what paint to get to paint my turbo and exhaust manifold with??

Not been down to see mine since the weekend... so I'm gonna hopefully go tonight to see what progress has been made (if any!)
I think you can get special paint fo rexhausts... if not I'd probably use stove paint - that'd be designed fo ruse in extremely high temperatures!

I am not sure about that Graham, would be nice to be able to still have the old thread, but its about 136 pages long and i havent a clue as to how to get it accessable.
I think its going to be one for Clint and Slim to try and answer for us.
right i have asked and unless we capture all the pages ourselves ( if the RSBB ever comes back on line) it aint possible even then its gonna take some playing with by Slim.
Hi all I have been away for a bit, just got back from Falaraki actually, it was the dogs danglies, I may post some pics on here, I am all refreshed now and ready to get back to work on the S1, I still need a Rad and a -31 though.

bloke who had my old s1 sold it for a saph.. said it's much quicker but less exciting to drive.. probably the lack of torquesteer!!!
I'd love to get on emyself.. think i'd have to keep the s1 though!

Just been out in my S1 for the first time in 5mths!!! Started on the button (needed a charge before tho) and was a lil fluttery, but once warmed up, took her out and gave her a good lickin.... Fuck me! Now I know why I have kept it and not broken her.... Damn she flew!

well ill only be getting a cos if i can get rid of my s1 and v6 calibra which isnt looking likely, nobody been to have a look, and besides which if it does happen ill only be S1 less till i save for another one, seems to me nowadays its dearer to buy a really nice S1 than a saff cossie, i just want to try one out, if i get one and dont like it then ill just sell it and go back to an s1.
defo want another one before the lap thing next year.

are you after the body kit??
if so i think you will find that Fords stopped making them about the same time as they did the towing eye covers. Your best bet is to get phoning the various breakers and try and put together a good kit with no breaks in it.

mine doesnt look to bad its just the rivet holes are a bit of a mess and i dont really wanna glass fibre it. I know mad for it spares quote £400 for a mint kit so i thought it might be worth just buying it brand spankers if poss!

Got some good news.... went to the garage today to check up on my baby.. in the last 4 days i've missed all the action... it's now got the whole front end on, they fitted my grs, they've also started on the floor/sills... can't believe i missed it all.. my photos are now gonna go from a total wreck to new front end in one step - slightly gutte dreally .. but at least i should have it back soon ish!!!! http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/cool.gif can't wait!!!!!!!!!

Got a mint low mile S1 concours. DONT wanna chop it but need to sort the cooling! What do i go for? GRS? Chargecooler? Water injection? All feedback appreciated!

IMO i think that if you own a mint low mileage car i would leave it alone, but hey its your car.
When you say concours is that standard or modified, and has it actually won any trophys,i am not taking the piss am genuinely interested as my mate shows his, his is a 12000 mile car though.
back to your original question though, i would go for as big air/air intercooler you can get, most people for this are getting the grs one, seems to work well with little or no mods needed to bodywork.
It is also going to depend on what power you are after, as if you only want around 180 bhp you could possibly get away with a chargecooler, water injection does work quite well but you would still need some form of uprated interccoler aswell, as i wouldnt want to rely on water injection alone.

Lee - replied to your rsbb thread.. i reckon that if you're really intent in not cutting the car at all (saw my GRS on yesterday and i really cannot see how you could possible get that on without chopping the front! ) then i reckon the only thing you can do is get something similar to my old one.. basically it just replaces the original on and is slightly bigger... I got mine from POwer engineering but Pace/GRS also do intercoolers similar to this.

Mark are u having ur s1 restored by a garage? Can i be rude and ask roughly what something like that would cost??
smundo.. yeah, it's being done by a local garage since i have neither the time, space or skill to do it myself!!!
I'm basically having new wings,front panel,scuttle,crossmember,sills, one rear wheel arch, and a load of the floor cut out and replaced, the rear seams being sorted, my GRS fitted, and all new panels/repairs sprayed, inner wings repaired, new battery tray, some surface rust on the bulkhead sorted, front chassis legs repaired... think that's about it.. expected cost was between 2000 and 2400 before I got them to fit the intercooler. All I have to do was totally strip the interior out and hand the car over to them. I also provided the intercooler,wings,front panel,scuttle and kenlowe fan. http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/smile.gif

Im planning something similar but luckily i have people who can do bits of an evening so i only need to sort out somewhere to do it and some beer tokens for them. once its underway though ill be picking peoples brains about this and that as i want to renew as much as possible so i will be a pain in the arse http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/moon.gif
unfortunately, none of my local mates are any good wiht anything like this... I've got one guy who thinks e can do anythign but I wouldn't let him within 100 yards of my S1 with a spanner!!!!!!! I would have loved to have done it myself (not to mention saved a couple of grand!). Best of luck to you mate!!!

Smundo, i have stripped mine TOTALLY, and supplying all needed panels, the bodyshop mine is at is only fitting and spraying, this was alot cheaper than getting them to do everything, quotes i got ranged from doing everytthing ( stripping it out and refitting) approx £4500/5500, to only painting, ( no Panel work) approx £1500, but the quote i got fro fitting panels and spraying is approx £2000, and this is to Concours condition, finish like glass.
Mark, i dont think there is a way of setting an e-mail system up, i am not sure if you can suscriber to the forum, only threads?? not 100% though, may want to check with Slim/Clint though, just in case you can.

what i will prob do is me and mates strip it replace panels and prep it and then get her resprayed by somebody. My mate is a v good sprayer its just whether he wants the job! some people want some crazy money how do they stay in business??
scott:right i had a gander at my car,i couldnt get the indicaotr lens off and as i dont want to brake it cant tell u the size of the hole in the wing,my bros is at the body shop so will ask him when i see him.but regarding the exact postioning of the hole.its 100mm from the edge of the wing to the center of the lens and 150mm down from the first swage line to the center of the lens.ill try and get back to u regarding the hole size but not sure when ill see my bros car.
p.s is everyone here now?

daz,whats the difference between loom tape and normal insulation tape?
Loom tape sticks to itself and not the wiring, the whole loom remains flexible due to this reason and you can bend it round the engine bay to the shape you want. If you have to remove the tape then it doesn't leave the loom all sticky. I still use a bit of insulation tape at the ends to hold the loom tape in place.

DAZ C not that it matters much right now with the rsoc being down but i have found a site that will host pics.all you do is sign up on the site,create your own photo gallery which is also available for public viewing although you can password protect them,when you veiw your gallery click on the pic to enlarge. right click and copy code out of properties and paste code as normal adding at front and at the end. your good with computers any way sorry for the idiot guide!

As for the concours bit. Its a one owner 42k miles original example...but has now got mongoose(still have original exhaust) and chip etc. Also changed to clear indicators....so a tad modded! Not won any shows...the guy who owned it was about 60 when he sold it and just owned it to enjoy...not show! picked my car back up on friday night(8pm)
started fitting all the glass,door panels etc..
stopped working on it at 11pm to get my other car then carried on working on it till 3am
back up again at 6.30am to go to get tracking done
arrived there at 8am and then my car decided not to start any more
spent a couple of hours trying to get it going again but the metering unit is knackered
called the rac to get me home and had to wait for 3hours
he told me it was the metering head(which i new already)then he would tow me home but he wasnt allowed as ive not got tax yet(and i didnt want him to tow it)
had to phone up for a low loader to bring it back home
changed the metering unit over then the bateery charger broke

I took a caliper back off my car today, need to find out the thread sizes etc for my flexi's....
Bit pissed off with it at the moment as nothing is happening with it.....getting to the engine side of things now which costs money, which I can't just lay my hands on straight away! http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/sad.gif Especially as the car stands me at around 10 grand as it sits now without engine and box!

but if everything was new it would be something like this

the thing i probably saved alot of money on was the shell as ive done all the welding myself
plus all the little bits and bobs
I got some of my bits second hand too though. Any part on the car that has cost me wether it is second hand or new has been added into that educated guess. A lot of the car parts have been refurbished like the antiroll bars, hub carriers etc.
My shell cost me a grand in labour (a mate did it for me as it would have taken me ages to do it, he has been in the body trade nearly 20 years and it took him 12 months to sort, it would have taken me 48+ i recon!) It also cost me over a grand in bits. So i recon i got a good deal regards the repair of the shell.....although i did have to buy a few tools to do the job. I got a Snap-On welder, speed glas welding mask(automatic) £750 for the pair!! £300 DeVilbiss/Snap-On spray gun, vaious spot weld drill bits etc etc.
The car cost £2300 originally, The rest is for the mechanical bits.

Front brake discs cost £400 for the pair!!
Front calipers cost £300
Rear calipers cost £130

Hand brake cable cost £20
Rear caliper brackets cost £45

Just an insight to what it has cost me, there are a lot of little bits which i call consumable items which are like nuts and bolts etc etc, i have probably spent in excess of around £500 in consumable items alone!! There are other items which i have bought but can't remember at the moment.

Loads more rust/rot in the floor pan and under the car too... Gonna need some serious welding to even get her close to an MOT, then the wiring in her is ABSOLUTELY ATTROCIOUS! Suprised it hasn't caused an electrical fire, honestly! So a new loom is required (unbutchered std loom) and then the engine needs a complete rebuild, as I blew the head gasket on her the other day! Oops!
BTW, reason she is on the 14" XR3i "Dogleg" alloys is cos I sold the others to a mate, and just had these lying around to roll her about on...
