View Full Version : Will turning the boost down.....
Damage the turbo at all. I turned the boost down to 5psi this afternoon and my car has started to blow smoke out of the exhaust. I opened the bonnet and the same smoke was coming from the Turbo!!!!
I can't see it would make a difference, what colour is the smoke?
White/blue. The engine on went back in on Saturday after a full rebuild so I cant understand it!!!!

Dude..... Your car sounds fucked!!!
Whoever rebuilt it, get it back to them and don't leave till it's sorted.
If its only just gone back in the car after a re-build, shouldnt you be running 0 psi while the engine runs in????
Regardless, from the sound of it, looking at all your posts the engine itself is sounding very ill, get it back to the people who built the engine for you, if its a DIY build, get it to a tuner, as it needs some serious amount of TLC.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news mate but you got some serious running problems.
Its not looking good is it. It has been rebuilt using Cosworth Racing forged pistons which are over sized so Im hoping that has something to do with it i.e. the ecu can't cope cuz its low compression and needs more air than it did before!!!!
The compression isnt going to affect the ecu, its the ecu that will affect the engine. Is it set-up, has the CO% been checked, IS IT CHIPPED??? you still havent answered that???
Has anytihing been done to the ECU at all? This all sounds like it's running a standard ECU, which isn't suitable for the spec of your engine.
Sorry it has been chipped. I have sent the Turbo away to be looked at just incase its that and have booked it in with the company who rebuilt it to get it looked at on their rolling road.
It is possible that the engine needs running in! You have to allow the piston rings to bed in. With new rings and a re-bore it should'nt take very long. How long and how far has the engine been run/driven for?
check the oil return from the turbo to the sump, its a little pipe that could well of split when the engine was refitted, oil pisses out of this and drips onto the Exhaust causing loads of smoke.
I ran mine in for 900miles before it was set up fully, didn't use boost at all if i could help it(5psi max). Mineral oil upto 900, with a change after the first 20mins running, and then after 500 and 900. Onto mobil motorsport after that.
Is the turbo old or new?, was the block bored correctly?, what rings are on their and were they spaced at 120degrees to each other when they went back on?. All this should have been checked by whoever built it.
