View Full Version : ACT guage for RS Turbo - Tech knoledge plz peeps
How do they work? http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/banana.gif Obviously I know they read the temperature of the inlet charge and display it in degree's C on an LCD screen, but where do you plumb it in and into what to make it read, and is thee anything special about the LCD display or can you use any LCD screen that displays numbers....
Tis only cos I am thinking about making a custom-one, and don't need the display that Mike R and SCC supply see...
(Also like to know how things work too http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/laugh.gif )

Just a thermister on the end of a wire with a driver chip on the back of the LCD display, you can use any LCD display as long as the driver chip is calibrated to the thermister, otherwise it will give you wrong temps.
Easy place is to plumb into the plemum or put it down the dumpvalve pipe if you have on fitted, better closest to the inlet then you get a true temp of charge
So the thing that tells you the actual temps is just the "wire thing" so to speak? And you could just slip it inder the Samco hose where the charge carrier cennects to the throttle bodie for example, no drillin or tapping nesesary? Then just conect the positive and negative and away you go?
So how do you go about having a display calibrated to the thermister-thingy?

Thrush - wouldn't that create a degree of boost leakage?
Cheers,
MAkr.
Er, suppose it would...
So how do you fit to the plenum or the charge carrier? Dril a hole and tap a thread and screw it in? Rather than fitting it into a boost hose?
Gotcha! http://www.turbosport.co.uk/images/smilies/smile.gif
SO If I get just the wire and thermister etc, basically everything bar the LCD display off SCC or Mike R, and use my own display, how do I go about making sure it reads the correct figures?
