 Hi All! I know it's neither a duratec or zetec but due to the inavailability of the zetec or duratec here:dunno: , I'm planning to put a miata 1.8 lump into my mk2 to replace the pinto. Any advice if I should go the EFI or twin 40's route? I also want to know if the swap has some problems I should later be aware of?

whats a Miata 1.8?

The same as an MX5 or Eunos Gary.

Dont know about tuning these engines but there are a lot of bolt on bits, even turbos, if you keep the origional injection etc.
Dont think carbs are worth fitting though, may just be a step backwards. Try to keep the complete engine and get it mapped, and just add easy stuff to start with.
A few cars have also used the older toyota engines (4age etc) if thats an option.

Keep us posted on the project, sounds interesting :thumb:

Does anyone have a picture of a complete engine and box out of the car?
might help to see how big a job it will be :thumb:

There are throttle bodies available at Toda race engines with a nice pic, I wanted to post it but I dont know how..the engine reportedly belts out 265hp on throttle bodies..I like it N/A as possible or can the stock EFI be modified to have a little more oomph..the lump costs me around 100quid including the tranny and computer box..it says it has 135hp on one site for the 1.8 lump.

Mk1 MX5 engines are from the Maxda BZ engine family.
The new MX5 gets the Duratec HE.

MX5 engines are bloody good and tough little engines. They have good mid range torque due to variable valve timing and if you can't get hold of zetec/duratec then they make an ideal choice for an Escort, especially as they are RWD already :thumb:
