fabricated alloy sump for xe
hi i have an alloy fabricated alloy sump for an xe into an escort with 0 deg bellhousing.185 pounds plus post.this is a copy of the steel type but this comes with a recess for the steering rack so no need for lowered rack mounts.sorry for pic quality and a baffle has been fitted since.more of these will be available next week.

Re: fabricated alloy sump for xe
thats quite a recess at front of the sump to trap oil and prevent it running back to pick up point
Re: fabricated alloy sump for xe
its only 10mm into the sump to allow for this the bowl of the sump is 7 mm deeper so the capacity of the bowl will always be 4.5lts with a total fill up of 4.75 liters which allows for 250ml of oil thats in the front section.hope this clears up any concerns.cheers mick.btw i run one of these sumps in my own red top engined mk1 putting out 215hp for the last year with no problems what so ever.the upside of the recess is i can use a wcxm with std height steering rack and therefore maintain correct geomerty and avoid bump steer issues which i had with the previous steel sump because i had to space the crossmember 10mm lower to clear the rack.
Re: fabricated alloy sump for xe
sold 3 more will be ready next week.
Re: fabricated alloy sump for xe
Could you make one for a Saab b204 and if so how much?
Re: fabricated alloy sump for xe
Have you tried one with an exhaust manifold fitted? When I made mine I had to make the exhaust side wing a lot smaller than the other side. I also baffled the wings to stop side to side movement.

Re: fabricated alloy sump for xe
yes mine is fitted with an ashley exaust manifold and i can still get my thumb between it and the sump.with regards the saab sump i assume its the same type block as an xe is it going to be in rwd install and excuse my ignorance is it turbo need to know for oil return pipe etc.
Re: fabricated alloy sump for xe
How thick is the aluminium that you use?

Re: fabricated alloy sump for xe
Saab b204, totally different from a XE, yeap going into a MK2 escort so RWD, turbo set up, also needs a dipstick tube fitted, it should be fitted in the car January so could supy exact dimensions then. Will
Re: fabricated alloy sump for xe
ya done a bit of searching on the b204 after a bit of checking people seem to mount them with a front bowl setup and modify the pickup to suit .i think this set up would work well in an escort for rack clearance etc.anyway once you have your dimensions please get in touch cheers mick.
Re: fabricated alloy sump for xe
Would you be able to modify the original Saab sump or would you have to fabricate one from scratch?
Re: fabricated alloy sump for xe
i could do either, sometimes its nearly easier to scratch build due to the cast alloy sump can sometimes be difficult to weld because the cast sump can become porous and contaminated but when you decide what you need and when your ready contact me via pm and we,ll exchange numbers and get the ball rolling.cheers mick.

Re: fabricated alloy sump for xe
Hi Mick, do u still make these oil sumps for xe??
Re: fabricated alloy sump for xe
sorry i have not made one in a long time they were costing me too much to make.
Re: fabricated alloy sump for xe
Do you do any for a 1600 xe??
Re: fabricated alloy sump for xe
i could make one for a 16xe but it takes me up to 3 days to make one and that is not including welding gas, welding rods, electricity and the aluminium so if you really want one it would cost 400 pounds and the postage costs to send it to you.thanks mike
