Any 'Maxi scooter' riders out there?
As a scooter rider I'm thinking of moving up from my Honda SH300i scoot to something a bit bigger. Don't fancy a motorbike as I much prefer the step-through weather protection, comfortable (for me) riding position and the laziness of a twist'n'go machine. I'm torn between 3 at the moment - Suzuki Burgman 650 (but looks a big bugger), Honda Silver wing 650 or Yamaha T Max 600. Anyone on here have any experience of any of these bikes? Any others that I shoulde be considering? I will be buying new or nearly new and price won't be the overiding factor, I'm more intersted in comfortableness, maneouverability and handling. Any suggestions?

Dont know much about these but a mate of mine who deals in Bikes had a Burgman and says it's one of the best bikes he's had, he's just been diagnosed with parkinsons so has had to give up riding full time but said the scoot was easy even with his condition and was doing a good few hundred miles a week on it.

Had a fair bit to do with theses bikes and they are a hoot! everyone should try one at some point! out of those 3 either the Honda or the Yamaha, some of the Burgmans ive seen suffer badly with quality, and seeing as they do see all weather conditions it can be a problem get one of the other 2 and enjoy it they are great!

 Too late. Had a ride on the Burgman 650, loved it so I'm dropping a deposit in tomorrow morning for a brand new 650 Executive that my local dealer has in stock and will be picking it up on Saturday. I've heard they can suffer from corrosion to the wheels and shiney bits but it's only going to see fair weather riding as I'm keeping my Honda scoot as a daily rider. Well, that's the plan! :D

Sold my Mk1 to pay for it. :stu:
Already done more miles on it in one weekend than I did in the MK1 in 2 years!
Rides like a dream. Well pleased. :D

Re: Any 'Maxi scooter' riders out there?
Well, after selling my Escort to buy this I'm honestly saying I've enjoyed every minute - it's had so much more use than the Escort ever did in the whole of the time I owned it. Just got back last week from a near 1900 mile trip to Monaco on it via Switzerland and Italy. Went with 3 other bikes - another Burgman, a Yamaha R1 and a MV Augusta F4. Definately going to go again next year. Only downside the wives and girlfriends insisted on meeting up with us in Nice for a few days and staying in a poncy hotel so no riding for a few days but hey, that was the deal!
Re: Any 'Maxi scooter' riders out there?
Update: Even more use - over 7000 miles on the clock now! Got back last Friday from another European trip. France, Switzerland and Italy again. Went up/down some fantastic mountain passes - Stelvio, San Bernadino, Simplon etc. etc. Met up with the wimmin in Sirmione, Lake Garda this time. Everyone's talking about planning next years trip already. Good times.
Re: Any 'Maxi scooter' riders out there?
Update: This years trip is planned and hotels/flights for the ladies are booked. We're going back to Lake Garda but doing it the long way - France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austrian alps and then into Italy. I'm saying goodbye to the Burgman (AKA the armchair on wheels) this week! I've just agreed a deal to px it for something else to take me on my trip this year.

A Yamaha FJR1300. Should get me there a bit quicker. :D
Re: Any 'Maxi scooter' riders out there?
Thread resurrection and update! I was finding that apart from a couple of weekend rides out and taking it to work half a dozen times, I was using it for just one week-long trip abroad each year. Factor in £1,500 for tax, insurance, servicing, tyres and depreciation and that one week trip was costing me about three grand a year! Anyway, after doing 4 European trips on the FJR, I sold it last year. I kinda liked the break in the middle and meeting up with the wives for a mini luxury break. Didn't like the long boring ride getting there and back though. On the FJR I did one more trip to Lake Garda, another where we rented a 4 bed/4 bath villa with pool in the South of France and went out without all the luggage for day rides using the villa as a base, and one trip to Lake Maggiore in 2016. Last year though the wives went somewhere different as it was one of their friends big birthday so the four of us went on our own and did a solid week of riding. Got to Pamplona in Spain before coming home. Did 2700 miles in a week and it knackered me. I lost the enjoyment so I sold it. This year the three of them are going to Corsica on their bikes. A near 1000 mile trip to get there that involves Eurotunnel, tolls, motorways, 700 miles in the first day, a night stopover and ferry to Corsica. And the same to get back! I'm flying out and meeting them there for £98 return and hiring a bike for three days for 330 Euros. I bet they do the same next year! :D

Another update. The following year, 2019, two of them went back to Corsica. I gave that a miss. They had the most horrendous crossing both ways and knocked ferry trip touring on the head. Early 2020 we all booked to do a fly-ride in October but of course the pandemic put paid to that. We rolled our deposit forward and have rescheduled it for this November. Flying out to Malaga, picking up BMW 1250 GS's with route pre-programmed into the satnavs, hotels pre-booked on route and included in the hire. Going on this trip: https://www.toroadventure.com/guided...h-cowboy-tour/. Yeehaa!
Re: Any 'Maxi scooter' riders out there?
Just to update this. Trip went ahead as planned - it was actually a guided trip. Top of the range BMW's. All went well...sort of! The bikes were keyless and after an off-roading stint we arrive at a fuel station to refuel and one of the group had lost his fob! We were about 250 miles from base, luckily on our last day. Of course, he daren't switch off as there would be now way it would start again. I waited with I'm at the station while the others backtracked to see if they could find the key fob. Still no joy after an hour and the only way to open the fuel cap was within 30 seconds of shutdown! We were snookered as he had no way enough fuel to get home. By pure chance I unclipped his tank bag only to find out that he hadn't closed the cap properly since the last fuel up. I called the others back, we fuelled him up and made our way back. We stopped for lunch and surrounded his bike with ours as it had to be left running. On we went and the guide took us through a forest where the idiot hit a tree stump and fell off, stalling the bike in the process. 150 miles from base and a mile into a forest. Had to push the bike out and get the emergency key brought out to us! He lost a fair chunk of his €2,000 deposit. Apart from that, it was brilliant!
