Pinto upgrade from 1.3 xflo
Hello all been away from site escorts finaaaaaly on road nova blah Faffing around getting running its a 1.3 xflo 4 speed Discovered lo comp on 1 23 4 is good Comp progresses from 1 to 4 No smoke visually looked at clearances (no grave to hand) but all have gaps of sorts Rings valves head gasket? Would of been nice to have got bitter use I don't really want to go tearing it apart ie rings so thinking Pinto Cheep yes but modding a sump will I lose essential volume It's lhd so need lh rs sump otherwise Exhaust manifold any prone there? Have servo so will a twin choke foul again its lhd Mount's change crossmember or other Oh gearbox t9 needs tunnel widening If I bought Sierra 4 speed is that same widening tunnel And will prop need shortening I did conversion 30 years ago cortina diner and not remember much lol I think we even somehow kept the original x flow box Appreciate any input
Re: Pinto upgrade from 1.3 xflo
down draft twin choke wont foul the servo. you dont need a big tunnel, but unless you use an alloy bellhousing the gearbox will be a tight fit, you might need some work with a lump hammer. you will to cut a bit out the gear lever hole and you will need need an rs or auto prop, and gearbox x member lowering blocks

Re: Pinto upgrade from 1.3 xflo
Many thanks I didn't realise how hard it is all to come by lol had a sport back in 80s and ghia mk2 few years back another X floor easiest bet to get me running Pinto seems as much as going zetec
Re: Pinto upgrade from 1.3 xflo
pinto is easier than a zetec, its more straight forward especially as with a zetec you need to sort water rails ignition and injection
Re: Pinto upgrade from 1.3 xflo
I like the simplicity of it too I have a bit of cash stashed I'm waiting for something to come up lotto transit motors suddenly appearing lol

Transit motors are low comp so I would try and get Capri etc. Don't worry about 205 as its pub talk as far as what your doing.
You can use your rad with pipes mix n match. But you need a bottom cutout to move rad forward.
Box fits but as graham says you need to hammer back the front corners of tunnel and an alloy bh helps ( I know of one for sale if interested )
Also As above you will need to cut back the g stick hole. I think there's a thread on here covering it. And a spacer kit from GS escorts etc to keep your box mount ?
Speedo throttle and clutch cables may be an issue on lhD ? Or better !
Eng mounts either make or but steel ones.
Sump can be modded without oil issues if your not going to be cornering too hard. Some with just hammer but others need cutting.
Change or mod water pump if it's viscous fan ( nose is long)
All easy but a potch

Re: Pinto upgrade from 1.3 xflo
If it were me I would ditch pinto and go zetec
Re: Pinto upgrade from 1.3 xflo
It's cost and time I'll go that way eventually I just want to get on road and use it
Re: Pinto upgrade from 1.3 xflo
Hello ta for help bagged me a pinto engine and t9 box saturday
2000HC motor mmm
Told may need lhd bellhousing / rs one as starter will foul steering any ideas
Re: Pinto upgrade from 1.3 xflo
rs bell housing has starter hole both sides. ie does lhd or rhd and fits tunnel better as its smaller. one for sale near me if you go that way.
Re: Pinto upgrade from 1.3 xflo
Yes if available can pop up seen on ebay but handy

Hello any starter issues fouling steering please told need rs bellhousing
Re: Pinto upgrade from 1.3 xflo
From memory a cast bellhousing has the starter on the passenger side so ok but is considerably bigger so a tight fit. RS has the starter on ether side so take your choice. If that is what you are asking ?
Re: Pinto upgrade from 1.3 xflo
Yes please wondering if get away with using original bellhousing starter same side as carb I think
Palnisbdoing as has 4 poster don't want him screaming as not done my homework

Hello I put a post up no joy as yet
Re: Pinto upgrade from 1.3 xflo
I think the only bit of 'contact' I had when I went from 1.3 X/flow to 2.0 Pinto with 5-spd Type 9, was the top rear of the gearbox hitting the 'hoop' in the trans tunnel - needed more cut away than first thought. However, be prepared for a big difference in handling - Whilst it felt so much faster in a straight line, I have to admit she felt a lot less nimble around the corners even with a few suspension tweaks. I wouldn't go the pinto route again myself...
Re: Pinto upgrade from 1.3 xflo
Many thanks yeh I fitted a lumpy 7.2l v8 and know difference myself
The x flo half out I've bought a Pinto so will see
