Turbo advice
Hi All
ive got the head off to replace the guides and noticed I've a bit of play in the turbo !
Going to use it over summer and leave it for a winter job lol
Im told my turbo is off a escort cosworth but what model is it T?
What would you guys recommend for a replacement or would you just get mine rebuilt ?
It's on a 4x4 manifold and I'm only stage 1 but I'm happy with the power it's got so I'm not bothered about massive power more reliable :thumb: any advice greatly received cheers paul
or if anyone has one for sale ???

Re: Turbo advice
If you go for a different turbo, then you'll have to consider it might need a re-map, larger intercooler etc, assuming you went biggar, not smaller that is. If your happy with the power you have Id just get it re-built/checked over as & when. A little play in the shaft isnt a problem so I would enjoy it for the summer & have a look in the winter as you say :)
Re: Turbo advice
If the turbo is 2WD Cosworth, I still got new replacement cartridge. As a matter of facts, these are complete turbo's but the cartridge is the same as the one fitted in a Cosworth. I used to strip these turbo's to repair Cosworth units. I bought them years ago, maybe 15 or more, in an auction without knowing it was useful.
The only difference is the water connection. They use slightly different tread but I do have the banjo bolts to correct this. They also had mechanical seal on the turbo, can run suck through carburetor setup (not needed for Cosworht).
Re: Turbo advice
Rebuilt will be 'as good as new' and a damn sight cheaper than buying new or a refurb'd one.
Ebay is a crap shoot IMO. Plus yours fits correctly. Clean, strip, new bearings and thrusts, reassemble and balance = £200 -250?
Re: Turbo advice
Tha is for replys lads :thumb: it's looking like mines a T25 from a escort cosworth,
Onyd I don't know if the core of a 2wd will fit my Escort one ? It dosnt matter about water banjo thread as I'm not running water thru it !!!
Cheers paul
Re: Turbo advice
No idea how the 4x4 Escort is build up. All I know is, it fit 2WD Cosworth. We found out by accident. I've never bought the stock as a Cosworth replacement. I bought the lot and first used the turbo's in other applications. There was more than only Cosworth look-o-like, I also had some larger Renault GT R5 T2 turbo's.
Re: Turbo advice
If you get your old unit rebuilt then make sure that it's a reputable company that uses genuine components. A 360 degree thrust is a must too.
