1990 Radiant Red Fiesta RS Turbo Progress/build
Hi guys thought i would share with you my 1990 Fiesta RS Turbo.
I bought the car back in feb 2016 for 3.8k as a non runner and had been pretty unloved for around 2-3 years.
Since then the car has come on quite alot had some ups and downs but we are finally nearly there especially now as we have took the engine out for a freshen up which was well overdue and it was scary how many bodges we fount including re used head bolts, bolt holes absolutely full of dirt etc.
The best part about this build is me and my good mate karl are carrying it out in my heated conservatory (the wife loves it ) haha.
rebuild has consisted of the following
bores honed & new piston rings
crank polished
cylinder head has been skimmed, new exhaust valve guides x4, decarbonised, hot washed valves cleaned relapped etc etc
new cylinder head gasket kit, new engine gasket kit, new cylinder head bolts
new cambelt kit inc water pump
new high pressure oil pump, cosworth oil pressure switch
newman cvh turbo cam kit with solid lifters
mahle crankshaft bearings
vernier cam pulley and billet crank pulley
ARP rod bolts
The spec of the engine is nothing out of the ordinary, iv had a t2 hybrid turbo built by my mate wilky at bernies blowers which consists of 360 bearing, escort cosworth t28 comp wheel, nissan t28 turbine both machined into oe housings. Also has a mongoose system on therealong with airtec stage 2 radiator and stage 1 fmic, we also fitted uprated fan and fuel pump looms from msd.
Once the engine is ran in and we change the oil again ill be getting it booked in with pj motorsport to be remappped on beige injectors and i also have an uprated actuator here for the proposed increase to 16-18psi boost.
we are taking this opportunity to fit an uprated helix clutch plus aem afr gauge, stack boost and oil pressure gauges just so we can keep an eye on the important things ill also not be butcchering any of the dash etc to fit these as i already have an oe centre heater vents fitting thats been modified to take 2 52mm gauges :)
anyway enough waffle heres a few pics of the car.

i did a grand total of 46 miles in the car last year and that will certainly change this year once we get the engine back in the car.
i have loads of pics of the engine build i could upload if anyone if interested in seeing them.
Re: 1990 Radiant Red Fiesta RS Turbo Progress/build

thanks graham, it was one of my criterias when buying the car it had to have them and also all green side mouldings in place.
i do have a set of mondeo 16" 5 spokes in the garage that also look well on these, but ill only fit them if i decide to run bigger brakes which is a good possibility as oe are rather poor
Re: 1990 Radiant Red Fiesta RS Turbo Progress/build
looks lovely from the pics. A car i always wanted when they were new, nearly bought a black one.
Re: 1990 Radiant Red Fiesta RS Turbo Progress/build
What a beautiful car with sensible mods and the original look retained. You don't see many like that now and a far better model than the Zetec engine Fiesta RS1800.

thanks fella ill dig out the pics from when i got it, was so tired paintwork i thought was going need a full repaint but a friend did a full paint correction over 2 weekends and got great results. Funny you should say that my older brother owned a black fiesta rs turbo many years ago absolutely loved that car.

thanks fella thats the exact theme im trying to keep with the car oe+, things that are being done are to improve on whats already there without straying too far away from standard. They are certainly flying up value wise and have a decent core of owners now. id have to agree on the rs1800 comment as again my brother also owned one of them after his rs turbo and it wasnt even close to compare them.

Re: 1990 Radiant Red Fiesta RS Turbo Progress/build
Finally i have a bit more to update on.
yesterday afternoon we got the engine off the stand and onto the engine crane so we could fit the flyweel and clutch.
http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/q...psntlfwofc.jpg
we then pushed the car out of the garage and removed engine from crane to then put the crane and engine up the back corner.
the gearbox was then removed from the car ready to be cleaned and fingers crossed we will be getting the engine back in the car next sunday afternoon.
The good news is the conservatory is now back to normal bar my front bumper being in there so thats one less headache ill have as i had an april deadline get it sorted haha

Re: 1990 Radiant Red Fiesta RS Turbo Progress/build
Fantastic little car, we don't have those over here.
Re: 1990 Radiant Red Fiesta RS Turbo Progress/build
up and at em, bit of a sore head this morning due yesterdays boxing so nothing better for it than a day of working on the car.
got a few odds and ends that need doing before we look at getting the engine into it, got some new cv boots to fit, battery tray is slightly loose so going to weld that in properly, gearbox needs cleaning up as well.
i will try to take pics but sometimes i just forget as i like to just get stuck in and crack on.

Re: 1990 Radiant Red Fiesta RS Turbo Progress/build
great bit of an update :)
yesterday turned out to be rather productive and we really are not far off from starting the car up now :)
gearbox was all cleaned out internally and a quick clean on the outside, battery tray was welded in properly as it was loose.
Gearbox was then fitted to engine and engine lifted into the car, we then plumbed all the engine in but fount one of the connectors to heater matrix had perished and crumbled away (better to find now than when out on the road). We also fount passenger side wheel bearing was shot.
jobs left to do are refit drive shafts and new cv boots, plumb in amal valve and dump valve, fit new heater matrix, fill with oil and coolant and get it started for the 1st time
anyway heres a few pics for you all

Re: 1990 Radiant Red Fiesta RS Turbo Progress/build
another little update got a few more bits that have arrived this week, namely an earth strap as we noticed the one on my gearbox was a bit worse for wear and also a brand new heater matrix.
the more important update is that me and my good mate karl will be working on the car this saturday and hope to have it running for the 1st time :) im hoping the wife is around so she can get a few vids etc
Re: 1990 Radiant Red Fiesta RS Turbo Progress/build
so the day finally come 1st start up on the rebuilt engine, sounds a bit tappy but more so on the video than in person, also always going to be a bit more tappy due to solid lifters.
we have got good oil pressure and certainly has cured the massive smoking problem.

new passenger side wheel bearing
fit new heater matrix
fill the gearbox up with oil
mount and fit the oil pressure and boost gauges

thanks for the kind words.
yes they certainly did although they are pretty thin on the ground these days, luckily for the most part they seem to be owned by real enthusiastic owners
Re: 1990 Radiant Red Fiesta RS Turbo Progress/build
Alright guys have a little bit more to update on.
we are going to be fitting driveshafts and filling gearbox with oil this thursday evening. Then at the weekend we will be fitting new heater matrix and fitting boost/oil temp gauge into the centre console.
But the main update has to be iv got the mot booked for 9am sat 28th April. I really cant see any reason why it would fail but we will see haha.

nice one, i take my lad to the swimming pool up there and used to work all over the newcastle under lyme borough for nearly 10 years (aspire housing)
Re: 1990 Radiant Red Fiesta RS Turbo Progress/build
last night we got the drive shafts fitted with nice new boots on there :), gearbox was filled with nice fresh oil, wheels were refitted and the car was finally back on the deck for the 1st time in ages.
we also noticed the fuel hose from the regulator had seen better days and luckily i bought some a while back as fuel was firing out of it, so new hose was fitted and all sorted :)
i did also go and get 5ltrs of shells finest 99 octane earlier in the day and will be doing the same tomorrow morning, just wanna make sure we have decent fuel in there as the other stuff around 1/4 tank has been sitting for some time.
so the next jobs are now to get this new heater matrix fitted, fit boost and oil pressure gauges into centre console, possibly fit front and rear strut braces and fit a new set of plugs as we think the old ones have got contaminated when stored.
Re: 1990 Radiant Red Fiesta RS Turbo Progress/build
bit more to update on, over the weekend i pulled the car out to give it a clean as its not been done in a good while, whilst out i also popped the rear strut brace in.
on the sunday new plugs were fitted plus boost and oil pressure gauges were fitted into centre console.
sorry i didnt get any pics but will do at some point :)
so the plan for this weekend is to go for the mot at 9am on saturday then get the car back here to fit new heater matrix and plumb in the aem wideband gauge.
Iv got the car booked in at GT Motorsport in stoke to have it set up properly on 11th May as its certainly in need of a good tune up, once this is done ill be getting some miles on the old girl :)
Re: 1990 Radiant Red Fiesta RS Turbo Progress/build
well it was the day of the cars mot and im glad to report it passed with not even one single advisory :)
the tester was very complementary about the car which is always a nice thing i think
anyway i got a few pics whilst there for you all

really am over the moon with it, now its just to fit heater matrix next weekend andget it set up on 11th may and were good to get a few miles on it :)
Re: 1990 Radiant Red Fiesta RS Turbo Progress/build
bit more to update on, front seats are removed from the car ready to fit new heater matrix this evening.
the car then as said off to GT Motorsport to bet set up, cam timing fine tuned etc then i will be happy to start using the car.
Iv got the car booked on at a local car show on 19th May and hopefully will make it to another local show the day after so as long as the cr is ready for then ill be happy :)
