Mk1 Escort 6 Dial Dash Fuel & Temp Guage reading incorrect

    Hi
I converted an early MK1 escort to a 6 Dial dash.
Originally car was Dyno but now alternator.
Fuel Guage is reading constant full when connected
Temp Guage reading constant just below normal temp when running.
I have not connected up the Gauge for battery volts or Rev Counter yet.

Im guessing its a voltage reg problem - appreciate any advice on what to check to resolve Fuel & Temp Gauges reading incorrectly
    Thanks

Actually my mistake, car was always alternator, ignore reference to dyno!

Did you get this sorted out yet ? It’s an interesting problem. I wouldn’t think it’s the instrument voltage regulator. The regulator reduces input voltage for the gauges, the fuel and water temp gauge sensors vary the resistance. As fuel drops the sensor increases resistance and the voltage through the gauge reduces, needle drops, likewise with the temp but in reverse, sensor resistance decreases as it heats up and voltage flows the the gauge causing the needle to move up the scale.
Having both gauges reading full deflection means both are getting full voltage through them. There should be an individual wire running from each gauge to the sensors.
I’d start by removing the wires from the sensors. The gauges should drop to cold and empty. If so it’s your sensors, unfortunately I doubt that will be the case. If not it’s a short circuit somewhere on that part of the circuits and I’d start looking around the back of the instruments and the plug and work away from there. I think if it’s a short circuit fault it will be associated with both sensor wires rather than 2 individual faults but don’t assume
