    Master cylinder help

My master cylinder has packed up and I'm in need of a replacement, I was using the stardard single circuit Drum brakes all round one.

This worked really well with my vented m16's and rear drums, but i guess the extra load knackered it

On ebay theres quite a few new master cylinders for sale, but there all state there for mk1's that have servos.

Will I be able to use one without a servo?

    my old one (50 quid!)

the type ive seen loads of for about a tenner

    cheers

    Dave

    Re: Master cylinder help

You need one that is for non servo.
The servo ones do not have the groove inside where the circlip holds the pushrod in.

The bolt pattern on those pics are all up and down, the Escort ones are side to side.
    Or do they do both.

    Re: Master cylinder help

I've seen those from rally design but i never thought about making up a adaptor plate. Just thought u had to redrill the bulk head.
That looks like the best option but i have no means of making a plate up myself, anybody know of anyone who sells them or would make me one?

Its all in the bore size !

Find a cylinder with the same, and use that.

    Re: Master cylinder help

By the time you have added the adaptor plate and the new clevis you will have to buy. You will need one to screw on the end of the new rod, because the adaptor plate will make the original one 10 mm too short (if plate is 10mm thick)
I would say you are looking at more than £50 by then.
I'll have a look what I have in my shed, will be second hand though.
I'd say it was a good time to replumb to a twin outlet bulkhead mounted Mk2 MS. Chuffed with mine.

    Re: Master cylinder help

i don't mind paying abit more if i know its going to do the job, if i replace it with another it may only last another 6 months.
what kind of of bore size should i be lookin at for m16's and drums?

    cheers

    Re: Master cylinder help

Mine is a standard bulkhead mounted Mk2 twin outlet.
Using Princess 4 pots and 2.8 rear drums.
You would have to replumb the lines. Run the front brakes off the front outlet and the rears off the rear outlet.
The fittings to the MC are metric.
I had to change the connecting rod to get it to fit.
Just undo the circlip in the back of the MC and take the rod out.
Put the Mk1 rod into the Mk2 MC.
Was a brand new one on ebay for £45 last week.
The splitter (for the pipework) is a 4 outlet on the Mk1. You will need to fit a 3 outlet one if you use this system.
Run the rear pipe straight to the MC and run the fronts through the splitter.
You can change the splitter to 3 outlet by putting a bleed nipple (imperial) in the spare outlet.
I have seen some MC's with twin outlets to the fronts (one each)

    Re: Master cylinder help

The Mk1 Capri MC may well be the same as you had.
Might be worth a look on the bay, though I would recommend the Mk2 twin MC.
