    meXEco pt2

This came up in my local free-ads last night-gave him a ring-hmmm first caller-not usually my luck-went to see it today-very, very solid-new wings, sills, arches-all floors very good, inners very good, boot very good-all in all it needs nothing-except my additions of turret boxes, 4 link boxes and fibreglass bubbles-its a '69 auto shell-i'm now the 4th owner...

All in all very pleased-so looks like my 'other' resto's goin on Ebay. More pics when i get her home weekend hopefully.

    Cheers, John.

Ha ha-thanks Dave-yes it means i will be working on (read working OUT) the Megajolt a little sooner than expected mate. Thinking of ditching the bubbles now-yes yes i know-but its too good to cut up i think. And means even less work-just turrets and 4 link/panhard to fix and she's ready for paint.

Not holding out much luck on Ebay to be honest-we all know what its like-saying that we just sold a mates ROTTEN mk2 Mex shell-bare-with no new panels for £475!!

    Re: meXEco pt2

Yea dude keep it standard, no point chopping up unless your going for stupid power.

Megajolt is easy, get a fiesta 1.1 injection engine loom, youl have to chop it out but just keep the wires to the ecu plug, the crank sensor, ignition module and the coil pack as they should be then you dont have to mess about and solder about 5 or 6 wires easy peasy

Erm and i saw the ad, dont think £400 is too bad for the shell with the panels. once patched up the shell has got to be worth about £800 or more Maybe just drop the start price to £300 if nobody is watchin it or sell all the panels off separate and the shell for £100-200?

Anyways crack on with this one and i want pics

Ooooh good tip on the loom-i'll have a look next time i'm out scrappy.
Got about 16 watchers so far-one bloke came to look this morning-keen lol-and seemed interested at the whole lot for the starting price so i'll just wait and see how she goes mate.pray:

More pics tomorrow hopefully after i get her home....

    More pics as promised....

All in all i'm pretty pleased with the shell-few little bits to do but most is surface stuff. First jobs are to start on interior rubbing down ready for paint, then turret boxes and 4 link boxes, engine and box out, sort engine bay, remove battery tray carefully, then prep for paint. Hopefully shouldnt take too long-got some inspiration back now as this shell wont take much to get her ready for fitting up-once i have all the parts.

    Will keep you all posted.

    Cheers, John.

Looks alright I hope your gonna keep it that colour?? think it looks very unusual

As for that hole, thats nothing Im just sitting here happy that you have loads of hours prepping it for paint thats only cos mines half way there and i just spent all day doing some shitty little bits of fillering

Oh and get the grinder out on the strut tops....and a touch of filler

Hmmm dont know about the colour-its sort of metallic-still undecided as yet. Yeah i will give the strut tops a bit of work also-tidy them up a bit-and as for the rubbin down-sore fingers time i think ha ha ha.

    Re: meXEco pt2

oh yes, but you can make it easier for yourself. The fillerman told me, buy a pack of da sanding disks, use these to rub it back with, make sure they are fairly coarse (like p250 or less) and just rub like mad so its all rough all over, then any shiny patches get them with scotchbrite just to make them dull. Then 3 - 4 nice coats of 2k filler primer and you have a nice base to work with as the filler primer will take out most deepish scratches and any small imperfections Then flat that off and stopper any little marks and another quick coat of primer and then flat that with 600 i think it is and then blast it with topcoat

I may be wrong cos i have forgotten some bits but thats how i will do mine and i will improvise if it goes wrong

Started on the turrets today-cut out firewall to get better access. Seems theres a little gap between arch and turret box-any idea how to overcome this? Could i persuade the arch in a little to meet up with box?

    Thanks Gary.

Yes Dave-i went to see my welder friend and he's just got a new project on the go so he can only spare a day now-so i have to prep the turrets, 4 link boxes and any other spots i find. Theres a few little holes in rear screen/grill area which i'll get a pic of later. Battery tray has to come out too but i made a balls up on my last try so leaving that to him too. Hoping he can crack it all in a day-he's got skills so fingers crossed.

Do i need to weld inside the arch/turret also or do i just seam seal?

John I guess you are a bit of a youngster?

Six pounds, 7 shillings and 10 pence. (and 221 pence to the pound - no wonder they changed it to decimal)
