    Weber 40 'types'?

    Hi, I'm browsing ebay looking for a set of 40's that will eventually go on my 1600 xflow, but apart from the model 'weber 40 dcoe' I've noticed a whole range of different numbers in the description of some auctions (numbers range from 77 to 151 to 31, some people list the codes ex: 40dcoe45 whereas some others don't list numbers or codes at all)

    What do these numbers mean? Are they different models/ sizes that go on different cars/ engines? And if so what am I looking for to go on the 1600 xflow?

    Thanks

    not sure if i'm allowed to post links but, some examples;

    The number after 40DCOE is as you said a specific type made/tuned for a specific engine. (70's and early 80's).
    Alterations from 'standard' can be jetting, floatlevel, different pressed bushes, linkage ...
    In the old days the 40DCOE for the XFlow was the 40DCOE2 but you will not find these easily.
    The 40DCOE151 is the modern 'one-type-fits-all' Weber for tuning.
    When you buy a used set make sure both carbs are the same type (like 40DCOE31) or are supposed to work as a set (like 40DCOE15/16).

    Hi Leon,

    I like it a lot when you write "one type fits all". As a matter of facts, it does not suit anything without serious mods that are usually not possible by the overall enthusiast. All you can do is jet them way to rich at idle and hope it does not stall in the first throttle move.

    Hi Dirk,

    that's why I put in between ' .. ' .
    The newer Weber carbs are not as well made as the old Italian Webers.
    Which means transition from idle to mains is terrible.

    Correct, the transition holes are far from correct. No idea why they keep building them this way and why they started so at the first place.
