    20xe chevette project

Well seeing as i havent posted any pics of my car in here i thought i would to show you guys the progress of my car since i bought her at christmas.

Here are a few pics of what she was like when i picked her up at christmas.

Then after sitting around for a few months (about 7) doing nothing i started work on her took all of 2 hours to have to hole fornt end of the car stripped down. Pics are with 2 new front wings.

Then i set about rebuilding it all firstly i got the new engine in and resting on the cross member and an axle stand where it has been sat for a few months until yesturday when i finally got all the parts i needed to properly mounted and she is sitting nicely in the bay with just a gearbox mount to fabricate. (sorry dont have any pics of this yet but will get some this week)

I then set about rebuilding the whole front suspension with polybushes spax front shocks -100mm springs (not sure how thats gonna work but will find out soon) Astra gte front calipers and discs.

Then the wheels went back on i got my 13in alloys to fit over the brakes was very chuffed with that

Pic of her on the ground with - 100mm springs and no engine in

Got the engine and gearbox mounted and put the front on the ground for the first time and its nice and low

5 inchs clearance on the crossmember

the new engine looking rather nice in the engine bay

Then here is a few pics of my everyday driver probably wont go down very well but its my first car and ive had it over 3 years

and herers some pic of me on the nurburgring this summer

Also a quick piccie of me on a cadwell park track day 2 weeks back where the car amazed me and a few others by how well she handled i suddgest you all buy roll cages absolutely transformes the car.

well i havent posted some pics for a while so thought i would show you the progress ive made over the last few months it doesnt look like much but its getting there slowly, working in a car park in winter is not the most motivating situation in the world! Ive also run out of money again so need to source some cash asap bloody studen loan just isnt enough these days!

welded rear turrets in and new axle with lsd fitted

sitting lovely on the -100mm springs but think its gonna be too low and ill have to raise it as not certain where im gonna run the 2.5 inch bore exhaust yet

ally tank and fuel pump all fitted into the boot neatly

so its coming along nicely just need to remember to take some more pics but i only have my phone to take them with! Only prob is that with the 4.7 diff and gearbox ratios that i have means that to do 70mph ill be at 5000rpm in 5th which will mean 1st and 2nd will be good for sideways action but not too good on the track so im gonna have to change that but ill have sme fun first

well i have made abit of progress over the last few weeks and thought i would let you guys know, firstly i got a rahter nice package the other week, it was my bike carbs coming back from the bogg brothers on their custom manifold and after being jetted for my engine

all plumbed in with my new filter king filter and regualtor

the after i finally found a cage at a price i was willing to pay i managed to fit it with all nice plates welding in and its a rather nice snug fit but im a happy man, will make me feel abit safer when its finished.

    Re: 20xe chevette project

Just to update this for andy, the facet was pumping fuel out the breathers on the carbs so he has now changed for the r1 pump to match the carbs, it cuts out when its up to pressure too

Also took the car for the exhaust to be made, but the escort manifold he has points straight at the front subframe thing so he now has to get a custom stainless manifold to match the system and clear the subframe Also now he has 175/50's fitted to the wheels its down to about 3" clearance at the x-member and floor so we have to put in an exhaust tunnel

Apart from that its ok, he built the loom for the megajolt and we programmed it and it fired up first time and runs pretty sweet

He wants to take it to the ring in the summer and he has 5 weeks to finish it when he comes back from uni, still quite a few bits to do

its a chevette hs axle so it bolts straight on and you just have to put in some rear turrets for the shocks

    Re: 20xe chevette project

im building a chevette using the xe engine on 45's and sbd ignition management. at the minute the car has a 1.9 kadette axle (no lsd) but will eventually fit the car with an hsr kit and probably use an 52" atlas axle. i was wondering if there was a lsd available for the meanwhile that you know off as i am finding it hard to find information about the chevette. have the dtv sports part disk but isnt up to date enough.

    Re: 20xe chevette project

    Hi

I am currently looking into developing (along with another Turbosport Sponser) uprated and heavy duty Manta / Cavalier / Kadett / HS axles in different set-ups.

Will hopefully include heavy duty 2 piece shafts, thick tubing, fully floating, CWP and LSDs but it won't be available for some time.

You can still get Plate type LSDs from Germany but expect to pay around £1400 and £6-700 for CWPs.

I can supply Quaife ATB diffs but I suggest their suitable for Road and Light Tarmac Use / Trackdays etc.

Regards and good luck with the project

    Re: 20xe chevette project

Thought it was about time i updated everyone on the progress that has been made over the last 3 months. Due to the fact the car is lowered to an extremem level it was decided that if it was to be kept at this height and still driveable in any form a tunnel was going to have to be made to accomodate the exhaust otherwise it would have been a track only car with an inch if i was lucky ground clearance!!

Front section of the tunnel fabricated and welded in

Rear section of the tunnel being fabricated, decided to put a box in place of the rear seat section to accomodate a large silencer to keep the exhaust not quite enough so the car can be used on track days and also so that the exhaust wouldnt have to cross the car to come out on the standard side, which also means there are barely any bends in the exhaut aiding the flow greatly.

The exhaust was then fabricated and fitted at a local stainless exhaust specialist and i am over the moon with it great quality and finishes the car off perfectly in my opinion.

As you can see this gives me much more ground clearance more like 2.5 inchs now so speed bumps are a mayb!

Having the exhaust on allowed me to get on with getting the engine running so i plumbed in radiator and ran the engine sadly this showed up a rather large oil leak coming from the rear of the engine, suspected sump gasket, this along with the fact there wasnt enough time to get my newly acquired pedal box fitted meant that the car did not make it to the Nurburgring as planned but luckily i have my corsa as a back up so all was not lost!
Few photos of the corsa in its natural environment had some new toyo R888 cut slicks on the car this year and WOW are they amazing or what i was keeping up with and overtaking porche boxsters along with keeping up with my mates 269bhp @ wheels MR2 Turbo (also on cut slicks) so all in all even without the chevette it was a great holiday.

Well that was until i snapped a cv and hub in half on my last day there just driving back to the campsite!!! Luckily i had breakdown cover and the car is in the process of being transported back while i was flown back by the breakdown people which made the journey home alot more comfortable.

Now back from the ring the chevette has sat untouched for a few weeks due to lack of time and tools(stuck in the back of the corsa) waiting for the engine to be taken out and the oil leak investigeted and fixed or if not i shall but in my spare engine then all that needs doing is a few finishing touches and improvements in a few areas along with the bias box fitted and new brake lines made up and she should theoretically be on the road.

But sadly this probably wont be until next May as i have just got a job working with radicals in Dubai from mid sept until May, but when i come back at least i will have the money to finish the car to a very high standard and maybe even make it to the ring and back next year!!!

Just out of interest (so I can buy the same), where did you get the 100mm lowering springs? Found a kit from TJ Motorsport that does 50mm lower, but that's not low enough for m plans...

Fair play its nice to see the chevy coming together ive got 2 kadett coupes the gold one ive put pics of on here which is running pinto power i know it upsets the purists but it i could of fitted it blindfolded it was a piece of cake and so quick to deal with i also have a green one i imported from germany ive done the right hand drive conversion again a fairly straght foreward job im now fitting the red top did you have any problems with your oil filter hitting the anti roll bar ive decided to go with a remote filter set up to run in conjunction with the red top oil cooler also what exhaust manifold did you use i was going to start with an ashley one and fabricate from there ive got mine on 45s so it should bark quite nicely should be back out on the road before winter with any luck

    Re: 20xe chevette project

So ive finally made a fair amount of progess on the car first in a long time and actually managed to take some pics this time so here they are.

First shows the cars pose at the moment while the axle is off at the rebuilders getting rebuilt.

Seat mounts all welded in and painted ready for my side mount corbeau's

Bias box in for the last time with all brake lines connected and reservoir pots mounted in the engine bay

Rear crossbar added into the cage to mount my sabelt 6 point harnesses to.

Finally a pic of the wheels i picked up in germany for 80 euros last year 6x13 and fit over my astra gte calipers.... just!!

So thats where she stands at the moment as soon as i get the axle back i can put it on get the engine back in which is ready and waiting to go in on the engine stand. and then it will be a matter of doing all the electrics and building up the dash and then thats pretty much it ready for the road but sadly due to my final year of uni happening in 2 weeks it probs wont actually be on the road until next year.

    Re: 20xe chevette project

Been at home for a few days over easter and the weather held out so decided to get on with some work on the vette really motivated about it now as its very close to be done but sadly I am now back at uni to finish my degree!!

Finally got the engine back together and into the car again, hopefully for the final time.

both manifolds on, starter and alretnator in and wires all but one water hose plumbed in

Oil cooler mounted and plumbed in

    Exhaust remounted

    latest pose

Also made up the rear brake line, remounted the horn and the panard rod mount on the left side of the axle.

All that is needed now is rear brake caliper brackets plumb the rear brakes in a few little bits in the engine bay and to build up my dashboard. So roll on the end of uni so I can finish the damn thing and start driving it for the first time in 3 years!!
