Steering arms right way? Both taper joints tight?

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately there no engine in it so I can't try that. I did wonder but in my mind it won't alter the geometry

Cheers. The taper joints are definitely ok. Steering arms I have fitted so you can get a socket over the ball joint thread if you get my meaning. Is this ok?

Re: Twin Cam Roll Bar Problem

Is it a proper twincam rollbar with the corresponding correct mounts as there is a difference in the mounts.

All bought from the same place and new. Advertised as a twin cam bar and mounts to suit.

I should have have gone to Gartrac but was trying to save a few quid. Buy cheap buy twice they say. Oh well

Re: Twin Cam Roll Bar Problem

Mine is very close with no engine in, but there definitely isn't any contact between the track rod end and the anti roll bar. I believe mine is a twin cam arb - though whether an original or aftermarket I'm unsure, as I bought it used:

I have the double width kit mounts on mine. Sorry the last image isn't especially helpful.

Thank you for that - it puts my mind at rest regarding not having weight on the front end. I have built a few escorts and never had this before. It must be a badly bent up bar.

Those bends all look a little loose to me. Here's a couple of pictures of a tc rollbar taken flat on the floor

Was gonna say a proper twink rollbar has a deeper kink in it.

I think a lot of twink rollbars are sold as such based purely on the diameter rather than the geometry.

Looking at the picture of the mk1 in the build thread that meXEco has just posted in, I think I'd agree in that the mounts appear to be wrong - the wheel is far too forward. Have you got any pictures of the mounts in place?

    Twin Cam Roll Bar Problem

Other than davemk1 none of those look like a Tc bar. The link In a Tc bar is much tighter than the std curves

I took one off that is exactly the same as that roll bar

It must be the mounts then even though they are new

I have now ordered a complete kit from Gartrac but just to save someone else making the same mistake as me here are some pics of the mounts

No mate. It's from a place that I've had loads of stuff from and to be fair they have always been great.

Hopefully they will reply soon and sort things out for me

    Twin Cam Roll Bar Problem

My escort twin cam and anti dive kit. Bought this years ago so could well be original. The car is on wheels but no engine and gearbox in. from the original picture i cannot see how raising the suspension with engine etc will alleviate that issue as the roll bar will rise with the strut.

Maybe not. He has an anti-dive kit fitted which lowers the ARB so it clears the steering arm by alot.

I know what you are saying. The anti dive kit is only around 25mm thick so i cannot see how that would rectify the issue. I am not an MOT tester but i cannot see how that would pass an MOT in the uk. They usually jack the car and rotate the steering to full lock if the steering is binding on the roll bar surely that is unsafe ???

Re: Twin Cam Roll Bar Problem

Since the arb and brackets look a lot like mine (whether TC or not), I took a few more pictures of mine today, they're a bit clearer.

Click image for larger version Name:	P1070153-.JPG Views:	294 Size:	106.9 KB ID:	78739

Click image for larger version Name:	P1070155-.JPG Views:	296 Size:	117.7 KB ID:	78740

It's close, but probably still at least 1" clearance between steering arm and arb.

No. These seem to be different in diameter.

Re: Twin Cam Roll Bar Problem

rally design is the bottom one, puts the tca at a wierd angle and is closer to the steering arm
gp4 is the top one and more expensive but fits,
rally design version is slightly smaller diameter

Re: Twin Cam Roll Bar Problem

With the rally design one the threaded part is barely smaller than the bar itself. It's pretty poor; to be honest I've come to expect that from rally design from stuff I've bought over the years.

Not sure where mine came from originally, but it's very similar to the GP4 one. I've had other stuff from them and it's always been good (most recent was a new radiator grill - spot on replica of the original).

Hi did you ever get to the bottom of this problem? Did the Gartrac roll bar do the trick?ive just ordered a complete Gartrac setup. Got the same problem and hoping it’s a badly bent up reproduced roll bar?
