Alternative to a gopro

Any one had any good or bad experiences with alternatives to a gopro?

I have a SJ5000 CAM it is pretty good for what it is. Not as high end as a Go-Pro. I was very impressed with it for the price. Only downfall is the app you download on your phone to remotely turn it on and off needs a bit of work.


I should have some videos of a recent skiing trip. I'll try and upload a few videos and photos later.

I use a RadCam HD20 (purchased 4-5 years ago) as an incar camera if that is what you are after. http://racingready.com.au/v2/?p=1149 I have mixed feelings about it.

The Good:
Easy to mount
Light-weight camera head so no need for steel gurders to hold it in place
Reasonably adjustable settings
Battery or 12v

The Not So Good:
Broke some pins in the camera head cable plug (they are tiny pins) requiring a new head to be purchased
Does not connect to the Stilo WRC amp very well - requires an amplifier cable rather than the one they supply
Got masses of electrical noise on the audio when I ran it plugged into 12v. Easy fix, use the battery
Have had issues with it not switching off (need to remove battery)
Have had colour shift on playback i.e. colours showing offset to where they should be
Not cheap

the sjcam sj4000 ( the sj5000 is a ripoff of this by a different company! ) is just a mediocre webcam. I got one try try it as static webcam, but it turns out the 12mpix camera is actually 2mpix. so results are as poor as any other cheapo usb camera. so it does depend what you're after... te gopro takes some beating tbh.

A couple of people i know have the sj4000 cameras (they have to be made by SJCAM) as there are knock offs of knock offs. Basically they find them great. I have seen the footage and its good. I use Contour cameras but if I didnt I would get an SJCAM without hesitation

Thanks for the feedback I have had a lot of people say good things about the SJ4000 cams and for the money they seem pretty good for a first purchase. Won't get used a huge amount otherwise I would get a gopro?

I have ordered one so I'll.update once I have it fitted. Have some footage of the escort tearing it up

i just got a gopro 4 hero black for my bday. Bought the ram mount with it and love it. Especially like the android app where you can control the camera and view the image.
If i had to buy a cam i would also have opted for an SJ.
