    LSD settings

I've looked at a few threads but I till don't feel I have the relevant information to decide which ramp settings. Looking at buying a Salisbury 3j LSD which comes in 45/45 or 30/65 ramp angles. I'm going to use the car for road rallies etc, so can anyone give some guidance. I know that driving style comes into play but if you can tell me the characteristics then it'll help. Car will have a relatively standard pinto.

45/45 will behave the same on and off throttle, so a big boot full will lock it and the rear is more likely to step out with a sharp lift of throttle. 30/65 would lock up easier under power but less likely to send the tail sliding when you lift

What type of LSD and also what setting to use is just like selecting a woman.
You won't know what you like until you tried them all yourselves.

And just like with a woman an expensive experience too.

If I were you I would go for the old tried and tested ramp angles and pre load settings if in doubt, they have served competitors well for many years.

    Re: LSD settings

i personally would prefer 35/65 but have done a lot of racing on 45/45

if you have never had an lsd before then i would suggest 45/45

    Re: LSD settings

I use 45 45 as I like the car to feel loose when braking into tight stuff like sharp 90 junctions that get used a alot on road rallying also on the loose it's good for getting the front turned in

My dad's car uses 30 60 and I find it isn't as easy to set up to slide but he prefers it this way
So as said before it depends on what you want from the car

Isn't there a diff that give both options being made now?

    Re: LSD settings

with the 3j nxg diff you can buy all sorts of rings with different ramp angles and they are double sided allowing two sets of ramps on one ring

I'll go with the 45/45 for now, can always change it in the future.

    Re: LSD settings

I went with a 35/35 (maybe 30/30 can't remember) with medium preload 3J NXG diff, I got it as a drift day, track day, road car do everything diff. It's perfect. It was noisy as hell at the start but it bedded in fast and is perfect now its silent unless parking in a car park.
