    My MK2 X-pack

    My Mk2 Escort X-pack

This was a short run on my dyno at work just to check fuelling was ok in hot climate, I was using old standard plugs (I use colder ones on track) so didn't rev out, the drop line shows where I shut off early at about 6000rpm, I reckon it had a little more left if I had revved it harder.

    Engine spec is:
    202 block
    7.2:1 GPa Cossie pistons
    standard cams @ 110 degrees
    light porting on inlet ports
T3/t34 hybrid turbo, peak boost is 26psi
    4x4 intercooler
    Grey injectors

    L6 ECU with Clint map

    Regards
    Mark

Haven't tried yet m8, I was too late for the start of the season, so I haven't done much, car has only been out once, plus one run up the road on trade plates (Adelaide hills are awesome)

I am doing a few mods to it now, and will try the chips as soon as I have finished.

    BTW
Do you reckon any of them are OK for the Bigger turbo I got off you? want to hold the 26psi of boost all the way to the top, I reckon we should be up for close to 400BHP then

    Re: My MK2 X-pack

We had a Clasic Ford dyno day at work recently.

It's been a while since I ran my car on a dyno, so it was good to see if it was still making power.

    I was pleased with that

Nice power Especially in such a light car!

Whats the issue with getting it on the Aussie roads then?

Kieron it is road registered now (I think you can guess how)

    Now for the rant

but there are loads of problems with registering modded cars here, the biggest issue is they have their own Australian design rules for cars (bit like UK rules e.g cars built after a certain date need a fog light etc)
and they have a superiority complex about them, unless that exact part was Aussie approved it cant be right, this extends to almost every item on the car, if the manufacturer didn't get it approved it can't possibly be safe.

So you get stupid problems, like people fitting bigger brakes and the car is then deemed unsafe

A 6 point Willans harnes couldn't possibly be as safe as an Australian approved lap/sash belt

If you make your own brake lines you might not do it right, so you have to get a clever man in an approved shop to make them for you

Even replacement seats will have to be adr approved.

There is no common sense applied to anything, basically they are worried that if it wasn't Australian approved it may not be any good, so you can't use it.

There are rules as to how low your car can be, how wide it can be, how much bigger wheels you can have, the list goes on forever, it's an absolute nightmare

So most of the modified cars here are running round with illegal modifications, there is no MOT but if a copper wants to pull you over and inspect you car he can issue a defect notice (canary sticker) which he slaps on your windscreen and you then have to stop using the car until you have "repaired" all of the defects and had an expensive inspection carried out.

And the things they can defect you for are hysterical, one of the guys who comes on here, was defected recently because he had a large aftermarket rev counter and that was mounted on top of his dashboard

The only real legal option is to get a chartered engineer to sign off your list of modifications as being safe, that can cost a fortune.

But the rules are also different in every state, so some stuff is easier to get away with depending where you live.

There are some very nice modded cars out here, but it amazes me that people can be bothered as it is so hard to get them legal

there is a picture of one on the black MK2 in the Classic Ford dyno day South Australia post.

Once it is one the car you are only allowed to drive home or to and from a repairer, so as the dyno day was at a repairer he was allowed to come along for the day

The ironic thing about them though, is that if they defect someone for mounting a tacho or other gauges on top of the dashboard, they state it is "blocking the drivers vision"..............................................

Then they stick a bloody great sticker right in front of the driver and tell them to drive home
